I think a lot of people are undervaluing this roster. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t world beaters but this is the 2nd best roster in the East when you look at talent and potential. Good schemes/coaching makes average players look good and good players look great. Add that to the fact that we just haven’t seen great development from Butch and his staff and this team can still compete with UGA next year. It still has a long way to go and UGA has a big headstart with recruiting but any coach that takes this job is going to look at this roster in a very positive light. JMO.

A tremendous amount of injuries last year and this year aren't helping either.

No doubt. This fanbase will show support regardless. Hell, they could throw out Mike Bobo and we're going to put 70k in the stands for the spring game.

I guess my larger point is I just hope, if Gruden turns us down again, that people stop taking him seriously and understand he just really likes the attention. People seem to forget that in 2012, after we did all we could to get him, he made a joke out of us national and had his agent release a statement that it was "laughable" that his name ever came up for the job.

I don’t see that last part like you do but that’s fine and I agree with the rest. This should be the last offer he gets from UT. I don’t think it’s do to attention and I think he really is mulling his options on this one, but I can see how people are hesitant to think he has genuine interest. My overall point was just that I don’t think there is a gruden cloud over whoever UT does hire. If they win, this fan base will worship them.

Interesting there is so much more intricate and specific info pointing this time around for Gruden, even media starting to say it's a possibility... yet you have been direct and steadfast the entire time that there's no way in hell it will ever happen.
Do you at least agree that we are making a stronger, more elaborate run at him this time around and he's listening?

You are also shooting down Mullen, Kelly, and maybe another... Who do you think is a realistic option? Frost?

We apparently have more money and flexibility now and everyone in the world knows UT better make it happen with a big hire or the fanbase will be non-existent the next 2-3 years...

I asked LA VOL this on the previous page...
He's either offline, doesn't like me, or doesn't want to answer - smokescreen...
In before the obvious- "he doesn't like you"... :p

People seem to believe that money is the silver bullet. Throw enough money at someone and he'll come running to somewhere he really doesn't want to be... or be persuaded to do something he really doesn't want to do. Sometimes, people are happy where they are doing what they're doing for the people they're already doing it for.

Money is neither the problem nor the solution. I think we'll hire someone who wants to coach college football at the University of Tennessee. And some of those names at the top of some of those lists don't want to do one or both of those things.

ok. Would you rather have the current set up at QB for Saturday or an injured Josh Dobbs with Colton Jumper as back up QB?

Gotcha THANKS! Let's just hope that the guy who wants to come coach here can finally take us to the promised land! :clapping:

I don't think the fanbase will be non-existent either way. This place is desperate to win. We will all be looking for signs that big wins are coming. If they do, we'll pack Neyland out. If they don't, we'll riot again and demand another coach.

Either way, the common denominator is passion.

People showed up to that horrible Southern Miss game. A change in any capacity will be welcomed with open arms imo.

Unless it's Bobo, lol.

Very much agree

This and a lack of development. Things aren’t as bad as post-Dooley but we are in for a rebuild especially if this 2018 class falls apart

I'm thinking it will be a minor rebuild. This roster is a lot better than the one Jones inherited. I'm guess we'll have somewhere between 6 and 8 wins next year. In year two we should compete for the east IMO

I'm not sure how anyone can say we aren't as bad off as post-Dooley at this point. Still a lot of roster movement to take place.

Give Mullen this roster and I think he could win 8-9 next year. He’s won more with less.

Agree. It’s a minor rebuild but we need to be ready to temper expectations for the next coach. Mullen gives us the best chance to win immediately

More fun from the Gruden thread

How is what blackjack said on VQ not even being discussed? JAV said blackjack knows more than he does, and if blackjack says something take it seriously. Blackjack said “I started off at 0% went up to 35%, and after what I’ve been hearing I’m now at 75% that we get Gruden.” Something to that effect, so why is this not being discussed more? JAV vouches for him and says he knows more, so that should mean a lot.

Just having a coach better than CBJ is going to move the needle immediately. The better the coach, the faster the acceleration. First thing is stop the bleeding.

There's a lot of talent. Just not on the line which will be a problem.

Biggest problem with our offensive line is that they don't lift weights and they have a culture of being soft. We still return a lot of O linemen. Need to make a great hire at O line coach.

We return almost all of our defensive linemen and we are signing a good class in that area.

Give me the better coach over the better “recruiter” any day at UT.

Tennessee recruits itself, especially when you start to win some meaningful ballgames.

I also think a better, more aggressive blocking scheme fixes some problems on the OL. IF, and this is a big IF, we can get Cade back then I feel a lot better about next years OL because he has the potential to be another Trey Smith type and start early.

OL won’t be an easy fix but I think it’s plausible to expect a slight bump if it the HC and OL hire are good.
