Give me the better coach over the better “recruiter” any day at UT.

Tennessee recruits itself, especially when you start to win some meaningful ballgames.

Yes, ideally the guy could close on the recruiting trail too, but it doesn’t take the best salesman in the world to sell a great product.

2nd most talent in the east. That will still be the case next year as well.

7-8 wins minimum next year with competent coaching.

Assuming everyone that can stay, does stay, I think you're right. But coaching changes always result in some unexpected roster turnover, so I'm not prepared to predict ceilings or floors yet. That said, the new coach will have a much...accommodating... East to come into than Butch did.

My hope with result to roster turnover is the new coach doesn't go all Kiffin. I think I remember hearing that due to his cuts, Dooley only had a ridiculous number of scholarship players, even in year two.

I'm online and I answered you.

yep thanks-- that was before you answered-- just being funny and trying to rustle folks into to thinking you may know something and aren't saying it since you seem to be in the know... just having fun.

The coach next year will have tons of talent. On the OL he will still have Richmond and Trey, and if we hire him in time and he is a home run hire, we can get Cade back. With good coaching those guys can be 3 big time players on the OL for next year. Still have JG at QB and with a good QB coach he’ll improve big time next season imo with the experience he is getting. Chandler, CFA and Jordan at RB. Maybe grab another one as well who is highly ranked with the right coach. Callaway and Palmer at receiver. JJ if he comes back and he should.

On the DL still have KMac, Tuttle, Phillips, and Taylor. Then add the newcomers next season who are big time players. I still expect big things from Butler as well. Linebacker is DK, Bituli, Sapp, Ignont, that’s a lot of talent. At corner you’ll have Byrd, Shamburger, hopefully Horn, and others. At safety we’ll have Warrior and Abernathy and others. This team is still stacked.

We just do not have coaching. An elite coach can win early. In 2 years can win east if not next year.

I like everything you said, but I'm afraid that unless we get a huge upgrade in O line coaching, Richmond is not going to amount to nearly what he was projected to do...

Good post and I agree it's early to predict anything. But the east is down and we should still have more talent than about 9 teams next year.

I think there's some talent over there that hasn't seen the field and has been left to rot on the sidelines. We will see next year I guess.

Kiffin ran off lots of depth that is true.

I don't think we will see a ton of attrition. I don't recall a lot of guys leaving when Dooley was hired. Same for CBJ.

Kiffin really hurt this program. Grinds my gears to hear people entertain the thought of him coming back.

If McBride has to start then I'm more than willing to support him but I just have to point out that JG was getting better every game. I hate that this slows our QB development for next season.

I agree with this. We will get a lot guys back from injury and most of our losses are close ones (aside from the two to the #1 and #2 team in the country). This isn’t a major rebuild and the new coach can win early.

Taggart coaches to the team he has and doesn’t try and fit the square peg in the round hole like Butch. He may not be able to develop the QB like Mullen, but he is a good coach and 10x the recruiter.

Is it easier to recruit at Mississippi State than Oregon? Curious why you say 10x.

Call me crazy, but I thought McBride looked better than Guarantano in the one half and 3 snaps he played.

I think McBride looked pretty good and JG is getting better every game. I like those two at QB moving forward. Hope we hold onto our QB commits
