I agree. I think Mullen would also win faster. Think it would take Taggart a year or two to really get things going.Heres my hold up though. Which would you rather have... A coach that can X and Os with the best of them surrounded by great recruiters, or an elite recruiter surrounded by good fundamental coaches
? We have seen both of these work so I dont think its necessarily wrong either way, but I just think it may be easier to go the Mullen route and make sure he keeps getting people to recruit the athletes he needs to win big. I wouldnt in the least be upset by getting Taggart either but if I had to choose Im looking at Mullen.
Heres my hold up on Taggart and I hope someone with more insight on him can explain to me:
I understand that Taggart is a great recruiter and that is needed to compete in the SEC, but I dont want another salesman I want a real football coach that can win. I can see he has built programs but at those programs even just getting better players helps that win total go up each year. So someone please sell me on his in game coaching/development. Is he more than just a recruiter? Honest question.
My guess is there arent going to be many eyes on our game this week. It's not going to he must see TV

The SEC network doesn't release its ratings but an analysis of this year so far compared to last year indicates that the published ratings for our games overall are only down about 10%. No matter what you may read on this board it's pretty obvious that while we may be malcontents, we still go to the games and when we can't go we watch on TV. I've got to believe that our fanbase makes a huge contribution to those #s of viewers. Loyalty is a character trait that endures regardless of the degree of pain or adversity. jmo.

His previous stops were set up for success.
If Taggart chooses to stay at WKU he probably wins a few conference titles. If he stays at USF he's likely eyeing a showdown with Frost for a title and NY6 bowl.
Fair question.
Alex Smith, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott
4 QB's coached/recruited by Dan Mullen. The guy knows what he is doing with QB's.
Yeah the idea of him with JG, callaway, and ty chandler is exciting. Im hoping we get Mullen or frost but if we end up with taggart Ill still be optimistic
This Mullen - Taggart discussion is interesting. I agree fully with the list of Ziti with Chavis' addition of Taggart at the bottom. I am good with all of them, but Taggart is my floor. He has great upside because he learns and adapts while recruiting well. Something Butch Jones is getting canned over - not adapting or learning.
But Mullen has already been "there". Some of you just don't like him - not the job he's doing or else you don't really get what he is accomplishing in Starkville Nowhere Mississippi. Not enough sauce for you. That's your opinion and it's all good, you may be proven right at some point.
IMO his career jumps out at everybody. He learned it from the ground floor under a multiple NC winning HC and ran the offense for two of them. Any HC with Alex Smith, Tebow, Dak and now Fitzgerald on their resume along with the rings and MSU's unparalleled success in their history has far surpassed what Taggart has accomplished and may ever accomplish since there is no historical benchmark to compare against Mullen with him. When Meyer moved from Utah to UF what happened to UF recruiting? Upgraded program, good facilities, tradition of winning combined with great recruiting and a winning coach to produce NC's. Meyer was not recruiting the best to Utah. He and the staff were doing what Mullen has been doing at MSU.
Same deal with Mullen to UT, IMO. With the caveat that Momma says it's OK to move to Knoxville.
I think gaulden needs to go get his money. Hes had a history of injuries and i would hate to see him come back and get hurt.We desperately will need some seniors next year. Long shot but new coach first order of business may be recruiting Gaulden to stay.
Not sure how I feel about JJ but would be a huge bonus for him to make amends.
