Philips and Taylor played well last week. Hope it’s a sign that both are about to break out. That has had the potential to be a filthy duo. Better late than never I guess.

Here's a random thought I pondered on for a little bit today. Would be interested to get opinions from some of y'all on this. If the current playoff system had started back in the mid 80's, from a period of about 1989 to 2001, how many playoff appearances and national titles do we think Tennessee would have appeared in and won?

All. Of. Them.

All of 'em.

A lot of these top-tier names being tossed out aren't going to be lured by another million or so. If they're successful and have a good setup at a program they're invested in, they're likely to stay put... unless they have ties elsewhere.

Guessing the setup hurt UT in previous searches. Money, history and facilities are great. However, if their isn’t a fairly unified commitment to winning and shared resolve regarding the success of the program among all levels, I suspect that its hard to attract interest from the best coaches.

Hopefully, this time is different.

Oh I love this time a day. When people come on here reading comments from 8 hours ago and replying to them 😂

Sorry, I am one of them today--- Just getting back on from this morning, but what's been the word on Cade officially decomitting from us today? I would think this is pretty big deal and begs the question of what is being said to the Mays family. Does Hank still think he will end up being a Vol when we get a new/better coach?
It just doesn't sit easy with me with him coming back from GA of all places... then I see some 4* DE from TN, Norton, looking at GA as well...

Don’t think anybody beats us in an 89 playoffs.

I expect Butch to be officially let go following Vandy, Monday morning most likely

If it’s Gruden, there will be diversions that week. The appearance of an actual search after the fact needs to be an ingredient here. Smokescreens will come. look for the announcement to be made on Saturday, December 2nd.

Conference Championship day. 10:00 am presser keeps the topic hot through all the games halftime reports and screen tickers for the optimum viewership.

If we lose to Vandy I expect (hope) Butch will be fired before he gives the press conference at the end, given that I’m pretty sure he’d be the first UT coach since before Neyland to have a losing record to Vandy. And then I think it moves quickly. We have our man with in a handful of days.

I’m still solid on thinking its Mullen, although the Gruden rumors are compelling and he’s made up some ground.

What if the total package is say nine million per? Does Patterson come?

If it happens... Is this more blockbuster than any football hire ever? Even the Saban hire? I mean Gruden is a celebrity. He's America's coach. Not saying he'll touch Saban's success but in terms of the coup?

I think we make the playoffs in 89, 93, 95, 97, 98, and 01 with national titles in 98 and 01. That 93 team was extremely good though. Outside of a tie with Alabama and a loss to UF, Tennessee pretty much throttled every other team on the schedule before bowl season.

Agree on Butch. However, if it’s Gruden, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was announced in the afternoon of the same day. Need to get maximum exposure for positive news by getting it out early in the week.

'89 is before my time but we were 8th going into bowl season.

'01 I think we were the toughest possible matchup for the Canes but have to give them the edge.

Anyone think a blowout by Mizzou this weekend will force the hand? I just have a feeling this will be a beat down.
