BTO any updates on any basketball recruits the Vols might be looking at? I read an article on rivals that said EJ Montgomery PF from Marietta is unlikely to sign in the early signing period. That might be a good thing if the Vols want to get involved with him.
CE: Now that you're focused on your recruitment again, who would you say has been in touch with you the most often?
AS: Tennessee, SMU, UCLA, Alabama, Florida and Florida State a little bit.
CE: Alabama is the only school to have officially offered you so far?
AS: Tennessee did, too.
CE: Tennessee is another school that has come on pretty hard of late. What has Coach (Rick) Barnes had to say to you?
AS: That its just a good program and coming up. Rick Barnes has coached a lot of good guards and gotten them to the league. He said that I could come up and make the program go higher.
CE: Any trips that you want to take?
AS: I am going to take an unofficial visit to Florida, but I will probably visit Tennessee, UCLA and maybe Alabama. But those are the just the ones that I can think of right now.
Can't land kids you don't recruit.
They recruited Garland, I believe he even came for an unofficial or two during football season last year. He never really reciprocated much interest with Tennessee and so the Vols elected to stop putting much time in there as they weren't getting anywhere.
Fair enough.
I'm not worried about Garland really. 5* one and dones don't excite me as much as some. More of a 4* top 50-75 guy myself.
He's a hell of a player, don't get me wrong, just saying they quit pursuing him because it was going nowhere. Now if someone wants to say they should do a better job selling or getting the kid interested that may be fair, but saying they didn't recruit him is inaccurate.
