Come on, Bass, you are flailing. There is waaaay too much evidence that people who matter are working to spend a lot of money on a good coach. There is no way we are holding on to Butch. Of course he is trying to save his job. Of course Currie is saying, sure, that's a good plan. But come 11/25, Currie is going to say, "Thank you Butch for all your hard work. Best of luck in your future endeavors."
And we are going to say good bye to an ugly era of Tennessee football.
I agree, it always seemed like a long shot that that was an option. I think the only plausible circumstance would have been that he wanted out so bad earlier in the season but didn't want to walk away with nothing. Now that he's here with only a couple of games left, I don't think it worked out like that.
What if there is a third option? Maybe this is a false dichotomy. Maybe Currie is trying to display a level of stability and professionalism that we can't appreciate.
Kamara is a rookie superstar in the NFL. Dobbs and Peterman both make NFL teams. Ferguson lighting it up at Memphis. Malone doing well as a receiver in NFL. Barnett and Reeves Maybin turning heads. Cam Sutton-- Chance Hall, Jalen Hurd...
How can you have a team like this and not at least win the East?
Regardless, he isn't helping anything by being silent. He is doing more damage actually.
And if he doesn't announce the hiring of a new coach in time, then the early signing period will be fast approaching and it will be too late for the new coach to salvage this class, even possibly Cade. Hubbs has been preaching that on the podcast for weeks. He needs to act.
I don't think Butch is coming back next year. But it wouldn't surprise me with this AD. However, I will never be okay with Currie doing nothing while Butch tanks the program and allows the recruiting class to fall apart.
Today I have reached the point where I hate Butch even more than Dooley. Can't explain it but I just wish he would take his money and leave. I know he is gone but him being here is hurting more than helping. I would rather get blown out these next three games with him gone than to have to see his stupid purple face on the sideline. He is pathetic. He has stayed long enough for me to hate him.
You gotta give "this AD" a chance. Have you not paid attention to other programs and what happens when they fire a coach mid-season? It's FAR WORSE than what we have rite now.
Drink a beer, smoke a joint, go get some PU**Y, but for the love of God, step back from the LEDGE.

Man, arguing with Bass has become worse then arguing with Bruin. Well, maybe not, but its close!

Actually I remember Larry Scott winning a lot of games at Miami after being named interim. Not every interim coach does worse. In fact, a lot does better. But again, not the point. The point is Currie is making it worse by silence and inaction.
Edit: Oh, and I don't drink beer, I don't smoke, I'm married, and I am not on the ledge.
I'm not arguing with anyone. I just can't understand why some of you are just okay with Currie doing nothing. He may be behind the scenes working on a huge hire like Gruden. I hope so. But his silence and inaction is making matters worse. Not sure why that's an argument, its the obvious reality.
Obvious for you. Not real for others. Let reality happen. Its going to anyway.
