Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

The early signing period, though important, is secondary to doing what is necessary to secure this hire. If you hire Him, they will come.

If he needs time to work out his exit with ESPN, you give it to him. The only thing that matters is the hire....everything else will work itself out.

I agree with you 100% but I'm concerned that they might go through all of this and then trot Mullen out to the podium.

I want to hear people's honest predictions on our recruiting class rankings if Gruden is announced before the early signing period..

Imo top 3 would be a no brainer

Top 10 at least.... reason I give some room is unsure when Gruden can get busy with recruiting and how soon he can get a staff together

This is why WE JUST CAN'T miss this time..... if we miss out on early signing waiting on Gruden (which I agree with) but then miss out on Gruden to... we are screwed

yea royally. Ive said it all along if its not Gruden, starting a search after vandy is death sentence for next ten years.

Prolly gonna post around noon about Grude family meeting or some crap.

Easy troll tactic. Post about mysterious future item. Wait for something to bubble up or transpire...post that this event is what you predicted. How to run investing scam 101.

do we think the new coach will be announced after the last game (even if it's a bowl game?) or after MNF if it's Gruden (which is Christmas day)

My guess is both will happen after Vandy. I think if Gruden's coming here, then he'll want to get started as soon as he can. My guess is he isn't too interested in staying at ESPN until the end of the season, since he'd be out the door anyways, and if the bit about him respecting Butch is true (I believe it is), then as soon as Butch is out, he's in.

I don't think if we make a bowl that Butch would coach it. Just a gut feeling there. Too much time lost btw 11/25 and the bowl.

From VQ

LWSVOL, "boosters are are more aligned with efforts than they were in 2012. Their were differences on approach to fixing football then and they are together on the fixes now."

Response from Voldamir Winalotski (respected poster)
"This shouldn't be underestimated. They've approached the whale more than once in the last few weeks and been rebuffed each time. This last time got his attention. A lot of smoke in the last couple of days. WITH THAT SAID, if he hasn't signed a binding MOU, he could still get cold feet.
Now to expand on LWSVol's post, let's think about the positive effects of having a united front among Haslam, Ergen, Anderson, Currie, Manning, and the other top 5 or 6 donors. If JG backs out, they will still make a very good hire."

I've said all along, since the meeting on Butch after Georgia, that this is will get announced when it best serves all interested parties. It will just depend on that. I think Currie wants a public dismissal and a hire to be announced close together like Texas did. I wouldn't be surprised to see it around the SEC Championship game...for obvious reasons.

I can only imagine the pop it would give Tennessee to announce the hiring of Gruden at the SEC championship game ....

More from Larry

This makes me think that broad terms have been indeed been reviewed.. due diligence.. Academic..Budgets... org control and protocols (ie compliance meeting been completed) and now we are looking at getting married and may have already eloped in Vegas. The one interesting part where all the leaks would come from has not happened......The staff conversations. Have a feeling we might see a bombshell this week. Nothing final because CBJ still here but Wow..I think he is really coming bombshell

You'll probably see some of the decommits still drop, a few more commits drop because they love Butch, but I also think you'll see a few targets delay their decision until Feb to get a feel for what Gruden has to offer. Still a top 10 class, just as it is now.

Erik Ainge is absolutely bashing any possibility of Gruden coming to TN on his show right now. He said he knows personal friends oh Gruden who told him last night there is ZERO chance he coaches college. TIFWIW

At least we've moved from "no chance" to all of this.

Per Beaver, who we are all hanging on as the truthsayer in this process, Gruden already agreed, and we just had to get everyone else on board.

So, if you believe that (which I do), then his bit from TOS sounds like more like a controlled narrative change than what actually happened.

I mean, either case is fine, since the end result is Gruden to the Hill, but just putting that out there.

The thing that's worrisome to be is that if Gruden has to be courted and convinced to take the job, doe he really want it? I would think if he was "all in" then all these seemingly small potatoes type things wouldn't matter if he really wanted to be coach at UT. If we land him, I hope he heart is truly in it and it isn't just about money, control, etc...

Has anyone reported the new job openings in the AA... it looks like they are looking for vice-chancellors of everything including the Provost.. I wonder if a fix of the AA was part of the deal too....

I have a hard time listening to anything he's talking about if it's not X's and O's.

It just feels like he's so condescending to anyone with a different viewpoint.
