Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

The early signing period, though important, is secondary to doing what is necessary to secure this hire. If you hire Him, they will come.

If he needs time to work out his exit with ESPN, you give it to him. The only thing that matters is the hire....everything else will work itself out.

agree 100%. again, not sure that i buy that it's Gruden, but the hire is the most important part of this for sure. and if you've got a chance to get "the guy" you want, then you pretty much have to do what you gotta do to close the deal....

kinda goes with the territory if you're in a "we're not taking 'no' for an answer" situation.

I can't tell if you are being facetious or serious. Either way I loved this post.

I am 100% serious. Finebaum had two reporters on the show via telephone.....Brent Zwerneman and Brent Sallee. Finebaum and Laura were in studio. Potential coaching changes at Arkansas, A&M, Florida, and Tennessee were discussed.

Zwerneman said replacements for Sumlin included Chad Morris and Jimbo Fisher. According to Zwerneman, Fisher's name has been in play since the UCLA loss.

Sallee mentioned Scott Frost, Dan Mullan, and Matt Campbell as potential Florida coach. Sallee believes all are an upgrade over the previous coach, but Matt Campbell will be the hire.

Arkansas was briefly mentioned with the current coach probably getting one more year, but it will depend on what coaches are available. Mike Norvell name has been linked to Arkansas and Ole Miss.

I would guess yesterday's show is available on Youtube.

I'll try to keep up the best I can. Busy today but I'll check in and help deliver some GTFO's to the trolls when needed.

Gruden to the Hill!

Soon!

One day all the Grudenites will be able to tell our kids and grandkids we were a part of the single greatest successful coaching search in UT history!

Anyone think that Gruden would get Jim Bob Cooter as OC? If so I think we could have a legitimate shot on Trevor Lawrence. Hate the early signing period this season and bet Clemson will push for him to sign early.

Yes - he said Gruden told us no twice, but we keep bending and sweetening the pot. I've followed JAV and Larry throughout and they've been consistent with this. Still not confident he will say yes, but confident we are all in. That's all we can do.

Let's be honest: any agent worth their salt would have had him say no at least twice, considering our situation.

I think he'll salvage a top-10....and next year's will be the big one.

My opinion is that the early signing period will not be widely used, since this is the first year it's available, so there will be plenty of recruits that we can flip between Gruden's hire and NSD. I say top 5.

This is why WE JUST CAN'T miss this time..... if we miss out on early signing waiting on Gruden (which I agree with) but then miss out on Gruden to... we are screwed

Maybe all of this nothing from the AD on the situation right now is part of some sort of test Gruden has given them to see if they are able to shut down the flow of information like he wants?

I want to believe so badly. Lol!

It's going to happen brother. I can feel it in my bones.

do we think the new coach will be announced after the last game (even if it's a bowl game?) or after MNF if it's Gruden (which is Christmas day)

I've said all along, since the meeting on Butch after Georgia, that this is will get announced when it best serves all interested parties. It will just depend on that. I think Currie wants a public dismissal and a hire to be announced close together like Texas did. I wouldn't be surprised to see it around the SEC Championship game...for obvious reasons.

I thought Chiz was a tool for ripping Butch as well.

We have games left on the schedule and JG gets beat like a drum. Completely unreasonable to assume he will be healthy the rest of the way.

Furthermore McBride can always redshirt next year if it’s an option.

People seem to ignore sound football decisions in order to pile on the dead horse.

Was the mystery of McBride's mom's reaction ever solved?

Over the past few weeks, I have gone from saying "I think we may be getting Gruden" to "I have no idea what's going on" when asked by the dawg fan morons by which I am surrounded. During this time my confidence of getting Gruden has moved from 40% to 90%. As my confidence grew my desire to convince others diminished. The day of the announcement will be that much sweeter when it blindsides the rest of the football world.

Would take a lot away from the SEC Championship game for sure. A perfect time.

I disagree, at the time we didn't know that JG wasn't coming back in the second half because JG came back after one series. At that point it looks like you burn a redshirt for no reason. JMO though

he doesn't have a crystal ball. jg looked hurt. you don't have time to waste. chizik suggested just punting it. it was first down!

I would say that when posters like LWS and people like Hubbs start coming around to the possibility that Gruden could become I next coach, we should soon start seeing the local medial warm up to the idea..... Late to the party as usual .. As more and more comes out there will of necessity come some type statement from the AD about Butch

No Timing on this in my mind at all............

By the way.... can one of you make a trip to the store and get me some prune juice, I seem to be out again... :)

Yowza, right away sir:birgits_giggle:
