You won't have any issues with missing it. Sling offers the ESPN and SEC package package as well so you can watch God's team.

I said Hulu but I think I am leaning towards Sling.

Follow up question...am I right that I will need a Sling device for each TV that I want to access live sports?

I don't want to derail the thread, but hey, you guys are giffing and apping to your heart's content, so let me ask an off-topic question.

I saw the brief discussions regarding streaming, etc., and it caught my interest as I'm on the verge of disconnecting. I have a $180 per month DirecTV bill and the only things I consistently watch are sporting events. Outside of the live sporting events, my wife and I watch Netflix or Amazon Prime almost 95% of the time...which is another ongoing expense.

As a result, I'm about to cut the cord and go to an old-style antenna for local stations/network sports and also subscribing to one of the streaming services (Hulu, etc.) for networks such as ESPN, FSN, etc.

Has anyone else made such a move? I posted a similar message/question on Facebook but all the responses were requests from my friends to let them know how it turned out...haha!

I'm curious if any of you have feedback as I know many of us have the same viewing habits, i.e., live sports.

I just have problems believing it’s mutual. If a potential coach wants to be here and we want them then I don’t really see a way they can’t figure it out. I would say if anything it’s more 10% Gruden and 90% us.

That's my take. If it was mutual from both sides, then the details would be an afterthought, and it would happen.
Ironing out all the red tape could be the hold up if that's the case. Lawyers, accountants, and agents could be holding up the process.

"boosters are are more aligned with efforts than they were in 2012. Their were differences on approach to fixing football then and they are together on the fixes"

Larry imo, is really warming up to the idea that this could really happen.

Then why do we continue to hear Haslam is a problem. Perhaps we should show him more respect for his generous giving since LWS is saying he is on board with this.

I just made this exact move. Antenna works great, all local stations in HD. Don't use old style though, get a new HD antenna for $35 or so. I have a Playstation so I use their streaming service because you can still DVR stuff that way. Their lowest end package has everything I need. Add in basic Hulu for the wife so she can watch shows she missed because we don't have DVR for local channels. Everything works great, no issues at all.

Went from 180 to 125 a month, and I'll cancel the 35/month streaming service after March madness. It'll save me about 750/year, and I won't sacrifice anything.

Edit you could do much better if you can find internet for less than 70/month like I have to pay.

I did it for a while and streamed mostly live sports and Netflix via Roku. I also purchased Sling TV.

It worked fine most days. But one really irritating thing is, at least for me, high traffic games did not stream at the same speed they did on normal days. For example: I had no issue using Sling to watch regular season NBA games. But as soon as the playoffs hit, every game moved at a snail's pace and buffered constantly.

I had the highest internet package available through Comcast so I don't believe the issue was on my end. It was really irritating/embarrassing to have a bunch of people over to the house to for the NBA finals then not be able to watch it.

In addition to that problem, it really wasn't as cost efficient as it seems up front. For internet alone I paid $80. Another $30 for Sling. Then add Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. (which I keep anyway but was more dependent on for content)

The best way to play the game is to switch cable/internet providers each time the promotional pricing period expires. I was paying over $150 a month "cutting the cord" but instead switched to AT&T internet with DirecTV, get more content and not dependent on streaming quality, and only pay $105 a month (+taxes and fees). I know after two years the prices will surge, at which point I will likely switch back to Comcast or to DISH just to get a more competitive price via their promotional pricing.

I don't think there's a big booster power struggle going on. Maybe there is, but I doubt it.

My problem with Haslam is that I know he has de facto veto power at UT, and not just with athletics. As a state institution that my tax dollars go to support, I don't like someone who's not accountable to the state's citizenry having that sort of authority. I understand that's the reality of our world, but I still have a problem with it. Always will.

Um, I think he already did. My daughter is way more tech savvy than me and has an iPhone and I have an Android. Probably not my best decision.

IPhone is more for NOT tech savvy people who want very rigid guardrails that keep them from messing anything up accidentally. IPhone is all about status or safety, not functionality.

Basilio:

Butch Jones Is Doing Work As We Speak: He's promising the huge donors that if he gets another year in Knoxville he will completely change his offensive staff. He's also saying that he's going to make other changes to his approach as well. His pitch is that all the injuries plus his decisions on offense didn't work. He's gaining some momentum with these folks. Not a tremendous amount of momentum but some. Give the guy credit. He's still battling. Don't rule out John Currie going to bat for Butch Jones if the Vols upset Mizzou then beat LSU and Vanderbilt. Can you imagine what this town would do if it's presented to them that Butch Jones could return next year? As I write this today, he's in the game or at least battling to stay in the game. In Butch's defense you must admit that his team hasn't quit on him just yet. And he's fighting to the very end as well to get a 6th year here.

When direct tv promo is up Just go on dish website create same package with their promo. Call into number first person can't do much but when you point on specifics of package offer you have compared to current one they pass you to someone with more ability to match. I did this and I got to 2nd guy and had specifics of here is what you are charging me and here is what I get front their offer at better price and he immediately said yes and gave me better deal for 2 years and No contract....felt like having the side by side comparison helped

I can't stand satellite, grew up with it and every time weather was poor (which is when I want to watch TV) could rarely get a steady signal.
