He does and it looks like it’s going to get better. He would get a top 2 class here. If he started winning then we would return to being a force.

He makes great decisions in terms of assistants he surrounds himself with. Taggart is someone we need to go after if Gruden says no

Easier to get the FL crew to TN/FL than Oregons that s for sure. He would kill recruiting with that staff. I think FL woukd bensilly to pass on him

You only have to do a few things really well at Tennessee to win. 1: recruit well. 2: develop the talent. 3: put the players in a position to win on the field.

Butch gets A- on 1, D+ on 2, and F on 3.

As much as I’d love gruden, a football coach that just focuses on winning and not masking his own insecurities will do really well here.

Great story regarding Mark Richt. He was in the tunnel during their walk through one year they played at Neyland. Buzz Peterson was showing a basketball recruit around and on his way out he comes up to Richt and introduces his self “how are coach?..Buzz Peterson). Then walks away...

Mark turns to a few of us standing there and says “who the hell is Buzz Peterson!?!”

That's pretty funny. I'm hoping he does really well at Miami. Still one of the best coaches in the game today IMO. A lot of people have ignored what he did at UGA.

Monday night chat going on over on VQ...

Is Gruden in play?

I would be surprised if he ends up in Knoxville, but I don't expect anyone to rule it out. Gruden isn't going to.

Again, my fundamental question remains the same does he want to coach football at any level?

Are you sure about the grandfather playing for Tennessee? I've never heard that.

Yep. I read On Rocky Top when it first came out. He followed the team during the season and had no clue at the beginning that it would be Fulmer's last season. He even rode with the guy who drives the semi truck that carries the equipment. CT started out as a good writer and reasonable. Has turned into a sensationalist that I can't follow.

Austin Prices response on is Gruden in play...

I’m getting on board with the notion more and more. Lots of people that matter dismiss it as a joke but that’s what you would expect.

Completely agree. Butch got really close to breaking through. As you said he got the talent, just couldn’t put them in position to win consistently

Technically Pawl is part of ESPN. Potentially floating the idea before they actually 'break it? Brilliant!

JK, I think...

Finebaum is the one who started it after the UF game. Then a few weeks later said Gruden will never happen 😂

What did he say today?

More from Hubbs...

Who has Jon reached out to for personnel?

I don't know. Several years of there last decade he's called friends like Rich Bisaccia and talked about putting a staff together or the band back together.

I didn't see it but this was posted in the Gruden thread:

Finebaum and Laura both think gruden to Tennesse is a possibility now and no laughing matter

Finebaum asked if gruden was a name 17yr old kids could get excited about in their living room and Laura immediately said YES his name is comparable to Saban and they know him from Monday night football and even more his quarterback camp and we know how well he can develop players and quarterbacks. They said he could prob bring in some impressive staff as well and gruden could be Tennessee’s magic potion

Nobody wants to be the one that said no?

Just TODAY you’ve got Price, Travis, Cowherd, Finebaum, Hubbs all saying that, at a minimum, it’s possible.

Disagree with the recruiting grade. Maybe in 2014 and 2015, but 2016 and 2017 brought it down considerably. B to B-. I used to scoff at the notion that the legacies were propping him up- and credit to him for not burning the bridge like Dooley would have- but in hindsight that may not be all that far off.

From the Gruden thread and VQ:

LWS on VQ: "part of Gruden's control package is zero information coming out of the football program for public consumption. everything will be closed down"
