Someone explained to me, control over the coach and football program. Bring in a big name, celebrity coach and the Haslam's lose the ability to basically tell the coach to come to charity events, do what they say etc. Big name boosters at Bama aren't asking Saban to give up his free time to do their bidding. Haslam is able to do that to someone like Butch.

Hmmm...Nike contract requires the coach to make x# of appearances and IMG contract handles all coach’s endorsements.

edit: oh sorry. that's a horse. not a cat

Can you imagine that without the war paint?

I don't want Frost, or any other young dynamic upstart. If UT was a young dynamic upstart that would be ok. We're not that. We are a blue-blood legacy SEC power, with facilities and funding to rival anyone in the country. We've moved away from seeing ourselves that way because of our self-inflicted decade of misery. It's time to change the perception in the same fashion that Alabama did.

I want an established, proven, championship level coach who will compete for championships against the best our conference has to offer. Who my list includes is irrelevant...but it doesn't include anybody at a current mid-major program, with less than 3 years of D1 experience, or who has started being spoken of because they are beating up on the scrubs at a non-P5 conference.

I still hold us to a higher standard than that....even if the powers that be don't seem to. I'll continue to, or I'll cease to care.

This all day everyday. Period. High standards only always.

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban

This is a pretty good read, and shows that even Moore had problems getting Saban there, even publicly had problems.

I'm not saying Currie is doing the same thing, but it seems to me that he is somewhat trying to take the Moore approach after reading it and looking at what all Currie has/hasn't done so far

I can't express how much the 38 days story has influenced my thinking on our coaching search this go round. Like zydane47, I don't Currie is doing the samething but this article gave me some insight to help me piece together some of the nuggets we have been given.

If you are just waiting for someone to spoonfed you, you will be left behind in this.

SOON!!!

Boro, I value your opinion and insight. Who would be your head coach choices, if not Gruden?

I laid out my criteria. I want Championship level experience. I want a name deserving of this job. Whether it comes from the current college ranks, inactive coaches, or the NFL. I leave that the those in charge...I'm not hard to please as long as we reach higher than we recently have.

Those on my list all fit that, but they are just preferences. Lots of people fit the criteria.

Yeah I'm hoping Florida hires him (Frost) soon, but won't be until season is over I think. Until then, we'll still hear about people wanting him.

wish I had said this^

Much of my extended family are Dawg fans. I am on a family Facebook group messenger with them, and last night they were offering all manner of sage advice on the coaching search while crowing about Kirby.

"You should get a proven coach, like Norvell or Fuente or Frost!"

I kid you not, that's what they said. In between posting GIFs of Fromm and Chubb and Michel...

Wish the powers that be had to sit through extended familial humiliation, might get them to make a move quicker.

Totally agree with you. My brother is a HUGE dog fan and I am SICK of hearing how bad we are and how GREAT they are and will always be...

I've got some good news and some bad news.

Good news: my small business consulting business just picked up a new client.

Bad news: I must take my OCD and attention to detail and use it to find inefficiencies in finances and workflow to build someone's business.

I'll check in a little but not much. Someone let me know when there is something to see!

A lot of people sitting around with their mouth's open...

I find a nugget I took from that article interesting that Saban's wife had to open his eyes to the big picture.

Throw some names out there. You say no to all the names others put out there. I don't disagree with what you are saying but lets see the names YOU think are worthy of the job.

Wait. Are we supposed to be able to work. That's a lot to ask at a time like this.
