Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVII

Lot of non-speak from Currie about UT Football and Coach Jones.

That's to be expected.

This piqued my interest:

"Pay attention to different trends. We had two coaching searches in the spring," said Currie. "Baseball. (Men's tennis coach) Chris Woodruff example of a great interim search. In future years as we have needs, we’ll figure out ways to make sure we have the best man or woman coaching our teams."

Good pickup.

So here we are several hours after the supposedly big donor meeting and we have nothing? Before I went to bed Larry had said something to the effect that the problem is not Haslam, it is the "bride". So I wonder, is anything we have assumed correct?

Do Currie and the boosters really want Gruden?
Have they really offered him a boatload of money?
Is Gruden even interested? If so, how do we really know this?
I still have seen no proof of his buying a house in Knoxville (just someone said)
Maybe big Jim is not Darth Vader after all?

Here is what we do know:

There was/will be a donor meeting and that contact has been made with a coach, not Gruden who would still be a big hire (per Atlanta Vol who I trust).

Currie is well thought of by higher-ups in the AD and not an idiot( I know this first hand, it doesn't mean he will make the decision we hope for but it will be well thought out)

Beaver has been dropping nuggets trying to use this Board as a tool ( he has said as much). His twitter tirade gives the impression that he is not up to "big boy" negotiations though.
Larry has stated that the problem is the "bride" so maybe Gruden doesn't want this at all (I also trust Larry).

My conclusion is, we know nothing right now. And we just have to wait for everything to play out. I believe everyone involved knows that we have to "get it right this time", and no one knows this more than Currie.

Good morning!

I see nothing happened here last night. I actually think that's really good.

To clarify for hawk and UTVolinExile...I don't know if the Beav and bubba are actually the same human, but I believe they come from the same entity. To me, splitting hairs. Same goal/purpose/plan.

Question..... That I have been very hesitant to ask, but will do so anyway, Do you think that HearfortheGrumors could be from the same place.... All three of these posters are out west, all three are in favor of Gruden, all three seem new to the board..... I am not trying to discredit any of them but if so, I find it encouraging that so much time and energy is being spent on this Gruden hire

Did LWS make these statements on TOS, as I could not find them in here?

I'm reading alot on twitter that we can expect a coach that is a sitting coach at a power 5 school already.

I wouldn’t read much into that. Based on history we can also expect Noname McMustGoogle so who knows. It’s a fun ride. Just hope we don’t crash and burn at the end

Coasty, this is a valid question. But no. HearforGrumors said something in one of his posts that drove home to me that he is one of us. I was on the same page as you until I read that. I don't remember what it was now, but I know it instantly dispelled any notion that he was a hired hand. It was something that validated that he was a fan, and not just saying he is.

The info I have received that Gruden wants this job did not come from here.

Nice assessment. There is a lot of information out there right now and I keep going back to what Jimmy Hyams reported was one of the main reasons Gruden didn't seriously consider the job in 2012. Hyams reported that it was over control, and imho opinion until they give him the control that he wants he will never seriously consider coaching at UT.

The best renovation right now would be a new coach on the sideline

Not good enough to have a new coach. Needs to be the right guy.

OT: Currie went to every team at UT and asked them what was needed for them to compete against the best of the best. UT has fallen so far down the list in the Director's Cup to be irrelevant and embarrassing considering our heritage and budget. He's going to provide the resources.

Regardless of how this all turns out, if this thread has actually produced hired plants by our potential mega booster savior to tip the hand in a coup d’etat...

Worth it.

My take on "the bride" is the bride of Chucky, aka his wife. Maybe she don't want to be back in the spotlight, don't want him gone away from home so much, don't want the hassle of ask the "crazy UT fans, etc, and just wants her man home regularly instead of the long hours of a football coach.

Dan Mullen is clearly the safest choice and UT can lure him from Miss State if they give him what he wants.

My question was not meant to discredit him, and hope no one sees it that way.... it just keeps coming up in my mind.... I trust what you are able to catch.... I am a little old and slow.....

Why is everyone so down today, I tried to read back but didn't find anything new that would discredit anything we have believed nor discourage me about anything

Take a chance .... swing for the fences ...or stay in the dugout ..... By the way, there are plenty of threads to discuss other coaches

High hopes that something would come out of the meetings, and the lavol post of Curry didn't want to even discuss the coaching situation is my guess.

He was never coming. Beav is a guy with not much going on and got some satisfaction from catfishing a bunch of people on a message board.

No one can convince me otherwise. I guarantee you I won't be back here in 2017.

If all I had was MIT's word I would have been out a long time ago, but there is far MORE going on than just the Beaver
