Assuming you meant the TCU head coach, it's "Patterson".

Shaw or Patterson are not happening. Not sure what caliber you have them at, but if you think Frost or Campbell (just to pick a couple of names) are lower caliber, then you're looking through the wrong end of the binoculars.

Frost and Campbell are rising stars. Shaw has peaked, and Patterson lost to Campbell. Granted, on the road, but still...you picked the names, and one of your "caliber" names lost to one of your "inconceivables".

Go Vols.

No, I meant Chris Patterson. I'm on mobile and didn't proofread.

I never said Shaw or Patterson would happen, or that they should. That's why I said caliber (knew I should've quoted or explicitly explained). I would much rather put stock in a product I've seen produce at a high clip than an up and comer. Hasn't the UTAD tried "projects" before, only to have it blow up in their face? I'm sick of projects and all the BS.

I'll be the first to say, if your "project" is rolled out with a 1/2" x 1/2" Power T lapel pin and promises how UT is back, UT may spontaneously combust!!

Also, the transitive property doesn't quite work in football. I take greater solace and confidence in the law of averages (e.g. a body of work) over a single season's production, and the season is not even complete.

According to LWS, Gruden is the problem. As in he doesn't want to coach here or anywhere. Thats his opinion on the matter.

Doesn't match up with AV's info though.

I like LWS and trust what he brings but I will always trust AV's info more. Larry is given information because of friendships while AV is owed information because of his donations and status.

Regardless, if LWS's OPINION is to be believed and Gruden isn't interested then we're in more trouble that we realize. Think about that, if LWS is right, collectively we just spent a month working behind the scenes, setting up deals for the AA and had boosters wrestling for control all over a guy that doesn't even want the job. That would be GROSS incompetence.

I just can't believe we've been twiddling our thumbs for 4 weeks and I also can't believe we've done all this work behind the scenes all in the name of a man who doesn't want to coach here. That honestly makes zero sense. Surely all the power players haven't just been squabbling amongst themselves since the Georgia game and have made no progress in a month's time. And surely they would have reached out to Gruden to make sure he was interested before they went through all this supposed trouble.

LWS brings great info, but there has to be some interest by Gruden.

It's about control. They may want what is best for TN but what they think is best has led us to this point today. They approved:

1. Firing of Fulmer: highly debated at the time and mistake in hindsight

2. Hiring of Kiffin: mostly applauded at the time but a mistake in hindsight

3. Hiring of Dooley: a mistake everyone saw at the time

4. Hiring of Hart:...

5. Hiring of Butch: debated and ultimately didn't workout out though he has done some good things like clean-up up the academic stuff

6. Forced Currie hire on everyone: still up for debate

7. Outside of giving money, what positive has their position of power given TN?

1. Just because you hire the wrong guy (Kiffin) doesn't mean the firing (Fulmer) was wrong. I appreciate Phil for what he did, but we were declining.

2. While maybe the Haslam's didn't veto Dooley and Butch, they didn't hand pick them. Hamilton made a horrible hire, and Hart struck out at the top of his list.

"LWSVOL, also known as Larry, says all the powers that be are on the same page and want Gruden for the new coach. Money is NOT an issue. The ball is in his court, and if we don't get him, it's because he turned us down. TIFWIW."

Who's going to write the biggest check? 🤷*♂️... VN knows who that is. I'm back for a bit..caught up. So Beav and Bubba are the same person per SFD, and Atlanta Vol is a hero? I've skimmed 150 pages so things are blurry.

Pretty sure that's just, like, her opinion, man. 😉

Chris Peterson?

This sums up my thoughts exactly

Bubba and Beav aren’t the same person imo...

That was the last season I really enjoyed myself and felt like we were on the way up, oh well! Also thought it last year when we were 5-0 then that came crashing down too. Damnit we fans deserve something good to happen this time!

Only what I've read on here. I've been a little preoccupied...my son was named the starting QB for his college team tonight, as a freshman. The rest of this crap matters very little to me at the moment. Haven't bothered to check with anybody.

Congratulations - On Highlanders!!!

If everyone is on the same page and Ergen is set on Gruden and willing to pony up the $$$$ then what is the problem. Apparently they aren't on the same page.

Maybe they are, now? Maybe Gruden doesn't want the job?

We all have opinions and circumstantial clues that make us hope he does, but no one has any facts that says he will accept it.

I hope he does.

I hope they make him an offer that makes it impossible to turn down and he turns it down only because he does not want to coach college ball.

No one on this site knows.

My thoughts...

Av/mit both say Haslam is the holdup.
Lws/others claiming Haslam also wants Gruden. Why would AV and MIT claim Haslam was the holdup if he isn't? Smear campaign because they don't really care about Gruden being the coach, just hate Haslam? That makes no sense. If it was someone else causing the holdup, they would be calling them out, not Haslam.

I think lws is just passing along what he was told but I think Haslam is outwardly approving of Gruden so fans don't get mad but in the closed for meetings...not so much

Also another odd thing about flying the plane during the game with a message, isn't it a night game? Would the message even be visible?

Agree on beave and bubba

I can't see them cutting Butch loose until they've got a firm handle on the Kendrick situation. I'm telling you, that could really blow up in the University's face.

But wouldn't firing Butch be "just cause" because of the BK situation. NCAA already said during the college basketball scandal that a HC saying not knowing is not an excuse.

Maybe so, but he wasn't. And once people learned about Kendrick, that changed the calculus for Butch's removal.

It is a real shame that the Knoxville news media gives our coaches a pass on pretty much everything.

Jones is an egomaniac. Had the media done their jobs Butch would have been gone long before now

Something i just thought of.... Lance called basilio the other day it was a good interview....maybe he would come back as the OC? Its pretty odd for him to do an interviewike that...

What's the talk about the BOT having a passing contest?
