Here is what doesn't add up, and in hindsight didn't add up in 12. Why would there be a need for a "smokescreen" or a "misdirection?" If a deal has been made, it would be announced. Pure and simple.

I firmly believe that there is no deal, that the AD is not close to any deal, and I question whether the AD is very far along in this process at all.

I hope I'm wrong, but it would be business as usual in our inept administration. It is alarming at how poorly the entire University is managed.

It’s really about what you choose to believe.

Do you believe that we have people who are connected to almost every deal the AD makes, who either leak to message boards, or are allowed to leak to message boards, all of the shadowy backroom deals and power struggles, of the people who are apparently so powerful and competent as to completely gag the media?

Or.

Do you believe we have people, assuming for the sake of argument their intentions are pure, who just really don’t know the right people, or who maybe know the right people but filter everything through some particularly myopic confirmation bias and extrapolate beyond reason?

Both could equally explain Grudenmania 2012 and everything to date in 2017 regarding Gruden. That doesn’t mean that both are equally as plausible options.

If Ergen is truly getting more involved and is pushing for Gruden... I don't think we have anything to worry about with the Haslams. Jimmy's not screwing this one up - nobody is. It's all there - Gruden's interest & current position, $$$, a willing AD that's ready to prove himself... guys just keep calm and be patient. Soon....

I am sure I will get crucified for posting a screen shot of a text (if I can figure out how) but this is a conversation I had last Friday from information that I was given verbally. The blue is mine the gray is the person I was sharing the info with.

How comfortable are you that Ergen and the so called 85% can overcome Haslam and Currie ????

off topic ... If Charlie gets this done ill forgive him for sending me a letter years back about suing me over buying parts from a clone card dealer. They made a small 486 computer with a modem and serial port for cloning cards, I modified linux for it do dial remotely into routers so i could have access if the links went down.
worked great and they never did anything after i sent them the info of what i was doing but it still gets me mad today that everyone is guilty of the same thing with no proof.

Bingo. Haslams may have big money and a voice in the AD, but they dont run anything. I dont even know how that nonsense rumor got started. Please offer one shred of evidence the Haslams make the decisons at UT AD?

This is what worries me about people posting stuff like this. A "wow" hire is not someone you think has a lot of upside like frost or mullen. A "wow" hire is a mother-effing white whale that's gonna helecopter it in the faces of Georgia and florida. It's getting filet mignon, not sirloin. It's figuring out your wife has a dead relative worth millions and they left it to you, not 100k. It's going home with a 10 and not a 7.

I think some people who say this think "wow frost would be a good coach here, that is a wonderful hire." No. A wow hire is someone who is gonna come in and alter the college football landscape. Frost might win us games, but he's not going to immediately terrify rival schools fans when he takes the podium for the first time. Gruden does that. Let's not get it twisted.

I agree, but as stated before, "wow" is in the eye of the beholder.

Sorry to everyone for not being around much but there has been A LOT going on. This week has been an utter **** show....on so many levels.

Their has been hesitation internally to let butch go early due to the reputation that UT has gotten in that regard externally to the coaching community...however I think the hand may get forced on this one. And when I mean let go I mean publically let go....lets not mix that up. He is gone no doubt about that but the timing thing is really playing havoc on this whole process make no mistake about that.

I was delivered either an incredible smokescreen yesterday or something that tells me there is trouble in paradise on the gruden front (lets say it went along the lines of currie reached out to xyz coach to gauge interest what are your thoughts... I won't name the coach as I don't want to throw gas on that log) . I can't tell which yet but I have been on the phone all morning with one of the larger boosters (in ktown) discussing our wonderful browns owner who literally could screw up anything he gets involved in so that tells me all I need to know on that front. Now take all of that and couple it with the next important piece of info.

I was then informed early today of a meeting that will take place that I am supposed to attend (can't give timeline out) that will be about a very large donation opportunity for some folks in attendance. Now I can't imagine in my right mind that they would approach anyone about a meeting like that unless there was something extremely positive was going to happen.

I think the band is about the start playing...the biggest question will be is it who we want playing or not.

I’m dreading what they may try to spin as a “positive” in attempt to keep donations rolling in.
