Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

If there really is a power struggle occurring behind this whole fiasco, it only makes sense that we’re seeing this power struggle play out before our very eyes in the form of a targeted information war. It is evident in this very thread (and others like it on other forums) and in the media. It seems fairly clear to me that folks like MIT and Bubba have been sent out by one side to fan the flames that JG can be had. It has been implied that hired professionals might even be in use for this purpose.

Perhaps the opponent didn’t expect such a direct and effective information onslaught, but once known, a response would be required. As we know, certain media members and other “insiders” are now consistently saying that the chances of landing JG are nearly zero – a calculated response from the opponent intended to extinguish the flames of information being fanned by the JG camp. It’s fully logical to expect a response, and most likely at least one reason why MIT predicted a rise in articles saying that JG would not be a good college coach.

I would think it’s useful for the targets of this information war – the average UT football fan – to be aware of what is happening. At a minimum, it should make everyone aware of the overwhelming importance of the average football fan in the outcome of this very painful process. After all, the only power that anyone is able to wield is the power given to them by others.

I like the way you think.

Another Grumor from VQ..

"My brother is close with the son of a very well-off and well-connect TN family. Think name on building type of well-off. Said son would laugh at my brother at the mention of grumors until monday, when he Spoke with his parents who said they’d spoke with one of their friends on the board who confirmed that we’d offered Gruden $10million and that he was deeply considering the offer.

I haven’t heard an update on where we stand 4 days later, but as of Monday we had a big fish on the line."

This was posted right before a Gruden thread got deleted

Seriously considering the offer? I really need to leave this thread. Somebody KICK ME OUT OF THIS THREAD! This is not good for my mental health.

I can only guess/hope when I answer that.

A couple scenarios.

- We offered Gruden and he accepted. In this scenario what is the benefit of firing CBJ? Especially if there is truth of the infighting between assistants. If you fire CBJ ALL of the attention is focused on the hire at that point. Maybe there were discussions with Gruden and he said that would make it difficult on him with ESPN and such.

- We offered Gruden and he rejected. Again all attention is focused on search.

-Currie has no clue what he's doing and we are screwed

Those are the main ones I can see. However I see no advantage in a bunch of attention on a coaching search at this point. Especially with the way the last few have went down. Furthermore the UF situation I think plays into this a little. If Butch is fired it easily exposes our hand and we are in a confirmed coaching hire war with UF. Then info leaks on who we are talking to. I kind of like the idea of UF in the dark as to what we are doing.

Just my opinion and just so you know I am a nobody.

All plausible I'll give you that one

Not sure if you heard, but Gruden just bought that house.

Has it been discussed that apparently yesterday Clay Travis, on his Outkick FB Live, said Gruden is a VERY GOOD possibility as the Vols coach?

Clay doesn’t like to be wrong.

help me out here ... i don't keep up with clay, ain't he a vandy homer? hates UT?

reason i ask is, if that's so, then his report means more smoke boiling, rolling out of what's going on in Ktown.

No. He's a TN fan who went to law school at vandy.

I think Clay really wants to see UT do well, he was just up Franklin's butt there for a while

UT under grad, Vandy law... he’s acrually a TN fan but hates the crappy hires we’ve seen.

On the whole is John crazy or crazy like a fox debate I would offer the following. (Again not accusing or defending him just a thought). He was able to set up the mid season firing of a TN letterman, national championship, soon to be college HOF, orange to the core coach with one of the best win percentages in the history of the SEC. And remember at that point he was an assistant AD but was able to see opportunities and manipulate outcomes to the end he wanted.

I have no doubt that he is an intelligent man.

But in any situation one only has so many options.

His seem to be dwindling by the minute.

He is also all about the rhetoric and keeping his name in the news, imo.

He is a "Clay" homer. Whichever way the wind blows that will benefit him is the way he goes. He rode Franklin's jock while he was at Vandy. He's been all aboard the fire Butch train for several weeks. If (sorry, when) Gruden comes to Knoxville, you will see him all over him.

Clay is his favorite team, always.

Which leaves us scratching our heads as to why an unmitigated disaster is still prowling our sidelines on Saturdays.

Because there is a plan.
The hardest thing Currie can do right now I keep Butch on the sidelines. It is a PR disaster and is causing people to intensely question his ability. Why would he choose to do the more difficult thing (let Butch keep coaching) when he knows he will have to fire Butch at some point? Simple. There is something in the plan that dictates he do the more difficult thing.

Not sure if this is the house but it’s registered to a James and Susan Haslam.

Anyway....there’s a place called Peter Blow Bend?

Can’t make this stuff up.

I also believe it, and if what the Beav says is true (to clarify, I don't blindly believe the Beav, this comes from several places...just easier to say the beav), the boosters are pushing for a better UT all the way around. I also want this. I think it marks a super positive change.

And that doesn't even take the potential power struggle between the AD/AA/Future Coach into consideration either.....

That's the one I was referring to. Its been on the market for 70 days, not just after GA.

The story about Gruden buying a house in Lyon's View is absolutely true and kinda old news. HankHill (who has ties to the football team) over in the RF confirmed it several days ago. It was reposted in one of these threads, but people were so caught up in chasing mysteries that I guess they overlooked it.

He also said not to buy too much into it, cause Cindy has been wanting to move closer to family for a while now.

So if I'm understanding the last few hours of this thread correctly, it is my duty to capture and castrate our athletic director.

That was my feeling as well.
