Man, it is not hyperbole to say that Kendrick could have died in the second half of that game. Literally makes me sick to my stomach.

You need to take a break from this if you believe this to be the case

I don't think he will be here next year (and I honestly don't think Bass does either), but you have to admit, it's not as hard a proposition to buy as it was a week ago.

The UTAD isn't healthy right now.

The fact that they traveled with just 5-6 OL and didn’t have a contingency plan is just another indicator of how incompetent Butch and the offensive staff he’s surrounded himself with are.

A lot of people here are still really underrating how bad of a coach Butch is because they bought into his snake oil so hard. Once th next coach shows up, it will become a lot more clear. We could end up with our 10th choice and it will be a big upgrade.

I hung in with Butch far longer than most. Looking at things now, to me the most glaring statistic is the number of kids that have left. I know a lot of schools churn and burn, but how many scholarship guys have packed up and left since he's been here?

That is the biggest indictment as to where he finds himself today...and where UT finds itself today.

If they do get a few, it won't be significant. But taking an admittedly simplistic approach, UF, FSU and Miami are certainly splitting the pool up far more than what happens in Tennessee and certainly Georgia.

Now, if UF would have just demonstrated more patience with McElwein and let him fulfill the term of his contract...
Florida should have kept Mac as long as possible 😔

Me sad

I had optimism before Currie did nothing and let Butch lose to SC and KY and probably So Miss this Saturday all the while everything is burning down around him. But sure, everything will be great. Currie knows exactly what he's doing. Not sure how I know that, but everyone on here believes it so it must be true.

if Currie had a coach to announce he would have fired Butch already... he doesn't so he probably sees no point in publicizing his search. It's been obvious that agents and coaching industry are fully aware Butch is gone and our position will be open. Not announcing allows Currie to work behind the scenes without media being able to hound his targets if they find out who they are. Local media can't put out their hit boards or info until Current HC spot is available. So he can work without people badgering his targets every day like Florida is currently having happen

I know a lot of folks are really caught up in the Scott Frost hysteria. He's certainly this year's Tom Herman. But I just don't believe the UTAD will take a risk on an unproven coach this go around. I saw yesterday where Doug Matthews made a comment that the next Vols coach will be a current sitting P5 HC.

I went through each conference and came up with a list as best I could of each current sitting P5 coach where by my estimation our chance of wanting him AND getting him is better than zero... It may still be an extreme long shot, but it's not zero (like a Peterson, Saban, Meyer, etc.)

Sitting P5 Coaches where the chances aren’t 0%

PAC 12:

Clay Helton (USC) – Haven't seen this name tossed out, but there are a couple reasons why I think he's a possibility: they wanted Chip Kelly last time but he was with the Eagles. If they could get Chip this time around, they likely wouldn't put up a fight. Helton has roots in the south, coached at Memphis for 10 years 2000-2009. Could we pull the "Reverse Kiffin" and bring USC's coach to the Hill?

Kyle Whittingham (Utah) – Things may be getting stale for him in Salt Lake City. This article was posted the other day: Should Coach Whitt be on the hot seat? - Block U

Rich Rodriguez (Arizona) – Dynamic offense, questionable defense. Highly successful at WVU and has taken Arizona to heights they have rarely achieved in their history.

Mike MacIntyre (Colorado) – Is a southern guy by background and has successfully turned around two programs (SJSU and Colorado) that were in the gutter.

Willie Taggart (Oregon) – in his first year at Oregon, maybe they want Chip Kelly back? Culturally there are whispers he doesn’t like it out west.

BIG 12:

Matt Campbell (Iowa St.) – large buyout, but there is no denying the guy can flat out coach.

Gary Patterson (TCU) – if he ever wanted to make a change, this may be his last chance.

Mike Gundy (Oklahoma St.) – has listened before, but is at his alma mater

BIG TEN:

Jeff Brohm (Purdue) – highly successful at WKU. Having some lumps in his first year at Purdue. Good young coach, but probably needs to show more at Purdue.

DJ Durkin (Maryland) – has a strong pedigree, but hasn’t quite shown success as a HC yet. If we are making a change in 2020 instead of 2017, he’s a name to keep an eye on (just like Brohm).

ACC:

Bobby Petrino (Louisville) – it’s hard to believe Petrino is only 56. That’s a hard 56. The shine is off the penny a bit this year, but there is still no doubt he can coach. Is he worth the baggage though? Chances are he is looking for a change with all of the drama going on in the UL AD.

Dave Doeren (NCSU) – Doeren appears to be turning the corner at NCSU. They have a salty D and a good QB. Either a bigger program will swoop him up or NCSU will lock him down after this season.

Bronco Mendenhall (UVA) – Bronco may think he’s bitten off more than he wants to chew at UVA where the cards are stacked significantly against being successful.

Justin Fuente (VT) – very hot name right now, with ties to the state of Tennessee after a successful stint at Memphis. VT will either have to pay the man or lose the man after this season.

SEC:

Dan Mullen (Miss St.) – 2 Natty’s as an OC, and a successful rebuild at Miss St. that has made them very respectable in the toughest division in college football. Is he happy in Starkville or does he want to try and win a Natty?

To be honest I don't know but I am certain I heard there were 6 at practice

I’m not arguing that.

And I wasn’t saying that was all they had Saturday because of what was said about them in practice this week.

I was saying it because I don’t remember seeing more than 6 OL in the game Saturday. I totally could have missed a 7th or 8th guy on the sideline, admittedly.

So UCF vs Florida, FSU, and Miami...

Who you got?

This year UCF would beat all 3. UF can't beat anyone that scores more than 14pts, same probably said for FSU. florida would get stomped. They can't stop the run and he loves to run. Miami is more of a toss up but think he would get them

Says recruiting base is what could keep him at UCF longterm.

Well, UF has the same recruiting base and will double his pay.

Dammit.

Orlando is soooo much nicer than Gainesville, especially for someone with a new family. A friend of mine taught at UCF and had season tickets to all the parks. By the time we visited they had memorized all the character appearance times, best time for all the rides etc and it made the experience for my kids about as great as it could be. Staying at UCF is a viable option for him.

Another way to look at it also is this:

Because of such high turnover, we’ve recruited 30-40 more kids to campus over Butch’s time here than many other SEC squads. But despite have an extra 30-40 opportunities to find and develop a player, we’ve seen worse development than most of our opponents.

So either Butch is really bad at identifying the type of players we need, he just can’t coach them up, or a mix of both.

From your list... not saying I would hire him but if Durkin doesn't lose his top 2 QBs he is probably having a great season and on way to being high on several coaching lists. He is recruiting very well at Maryland and has a very good staff. He has the OC in Walt Bell and he has extensive SEC and Big gam experience as a DC

I think a lot of it is that he just doesn't play the right players and/or plays most of his guys too much and doesn't give others a chance. Weird use of personnel.

According to rivals, these are the states which supplied our blue chip recruits:

ScreenHunter_01 Nov. 02 10.20.gif

My thinking is if we're going to recruit nationally it would probably be better if we had a high profile national personality doing the recruiting.

Butch's recruiting sort of took a bit of a hit as the legacy pool got smaller and his reputation for comedic gold took off.
