Grantham has only been with Mullen one year. No guarantee he would follow him here.

My guess would be they hire someone who runs a 4-3.

True you really don't know what kind of.staff Mullen could hire with our resources. That another reason why it's hard to judge Ms St success to TN or FL. He would not only attract better players but better coaches

I believe it is Billy Gonzales, who has been mentioned here in the past for WR coach.

I would hate to see the transition to a 3-4 again under Grantham.

Mullen has had a 4-3 defense almost the whole time he's been at MSU outside of Grantham. He's actually had some pretty good DC's there in Geoff Collins and Manny Diaz. It just seems he hasn't been able to put up the $ to keep them when bigger programs come calling to hire them away; I don't think that would be as much of a problem for him at UT.

Have their been any recent reports of Mullen maybe having interest in this job? Seems to be a fair amount of optimism.

SECMike at SDS said he's heard Sexton may be trying to clear the way for Mullen to go to Tennessee. Several here convinced it is a play to get him a raise, which could very well be the case.

I'd say it'll take 6 million at least to get him here. I think he'd be well worth that in the long run. Give him 6, and the money to attract a top staff and I'm not sure MSU could match it.

People love Cutcliffe as a qb guru because of Peyton and Eli. I think the productions of Alex Smith, Tebow, and Dak Prescott show what Mullen can do. Would be interesting to see what he could do at UT with much more recruiting ability and players. The thought of him with JG intrigues me.

Agreed, if he's your coach you love him. If not you hate him.

SN: I'd be fine with Mullen, not that home run hire but a solid triple.

Who is a home run hire?

Frost looks the part but is still unproven at a high level.
Gruden has been out a while and never in college.
Kelly has NCAA baggage.

I prefer a 3-4 look. (Even thought you’re in nickel more than anything) but even then you could run a 2-4-5 similar to what the raiders do putting Mack and Irving on the edge. With 2 others in the middle. 3-4 is easier to recruit too. You can take more tweener guys at De/LB that are sometimes crazy athletic just don’t have the measurables

I’d be fine with Mullen and a commitment to give him a huge pool of cash for top notch assistants.

I'm sure. TN still has a coach. They aren't actively looking for one so I'm sure its just a play against MSU.

You really want to run a 2-4-5 with our LBs?

Has Cutcliffe done anything Mullen hasn't? Both have coordinated for conference and national championship-winning teams, both have dragged conference bottom-feeders from the depths.

Not to say they're Saban or Meyer. They're not, but not many can even hope to ever come close.
