Went out trick or treating with the gf and her son. There was a man in a Vols coach polo, khakis, a headset, a chart that said “When to go for 2”, and to top it off had a donkey mask. Best Butch costume I’ve seen to date.

Pisses me off that we automatically take a backseat to Florida for no reasons other than in-state recruiting and recent success. Never mind the fact that UF reportedly has some of the worst facilities in the SEC, and the whole McElwain situation shows how they deal with a coach coming of two straight division titles.

And if in-state recruiting were the be all end all, Texas would have way more national championships than they do and FSU would never be sitting at 2-5 with losses to Louisville, NC State, and Boston College.

It frustrates me as well, but there is absolutely no question that Florida is a better job at this point than Tennessee.

For example, Florida isn't hurtling towards its 6th losing season in 10 years.

In fact, they've had one losing season since 1979.

We've beaten them 7 times in the period from 1976 to 2017.

Disappointing as it is, our program owns the recent stretch of mediocrity every bit as much as we own that great stretch in the late 1990s.

Everybody on the outside looking in see us this way.

We are what we are at this point.

Only thing that will change that is hiring a coach that can restore respectability to us. We have to earn it back at this point. Nobody cares what we accomplished in the 20th century.

Pray that Chip would want to coach here.

Larry has already said I think this morning that Kelly won't coach anywhere in the SEC. Didn't say why. There haven't even been any rumors about him and this job whatsoever so I really don't think he's even on the table.

No offense to Larry but if he is saying that as it being Chips’s Choice...I highly doubt it.

To hire Kelly, they’d have to get clearance from Sankey. Because of former ncaa baggage.

I read article this week that quoted Kelly saying Florida nor Tennessee had reached out to him. Article sounded like he would listen.

Do it. It would be a Chipmas Miracle

I think I get your dig at me, but it is not a good one. We have over a decade of verifiable and incontrovertible evidence of malfeasance and stupidity regarding the running of UT atletics in general and football in particular...the program is in the crapper.

Then why are you here?

Seems like TN is going to Fumble this hire again, oh wait that's already happened the last Ten Years, shame on me for thinking it would be different. . So what's new?

Any coach that has NCAA baggage has to an extra level of scrutiny by the SEC commissioner. That's why Larry doesn't think Kelly will land in the SEC.

Guys like Feldman and Pat Forde have been saying the last few years that Kelly would never take a SEC job. He doesn't like all the stuff that comes with coaching in the conference, plus one said he just really doesn't like the South (it was Forde if I remember correctly).

I remember that one of the national guys was on the radio in ATL and Chip Kelly came up in regards to like A&M if Sumlin was fired. The guy said he would rather go somewhere like Arizona or Arizona St than anywhere in the SEC.

If it isn't Gruden with a closed door deal, then our search process makes less than 0 sense.
That is why I hope it is Gruden.

I honestly think Sankey realizes this conference is so starved for good coaching, and a foil to Bama, that he would approve it. Especially if it was Florida.

I wonder if Larry is saying this because the SEC office supposedly has to approve Kelly being hired by an SEC school due to the NCAA matter.

Edit: already addressed above.

All that matters in a case with a public figure is proving actual malice, really. If you are a public figure your case is handled differently then a normal libel case. Pretty sure Butch would classify as such. Either way, you are right in that it is very hard to prove actual malice therefor most libel cases don’t even make it to court.

Thanks for the clarification. Actual malice is the term I couldn't quite drum up in my head

I could see Currie waiting around to see what A&M is going to do with Sumlin. I'd hire him in a heartbeat if they let him go.

Yeah. I agree with you there. Unless there is something in place with a non sitting coach, the optics are just weird.

I don't necessarily agree with the emptyneyland movement, partly because of the players and partly because I think Jones is not our coach in 2018 regardless of what happens at this point. But I would love to send some similar kind of unified message to the UT admin that if this coaching hire doesn't go well, there will be a lot of empty seats in Neyland for years to come.

So if all the guys bringing information about Gruden are just lying trolls, then you guys saying Booch is definitely gone are just lying trolls too. If he lucks out and somehow wins 3 out of the next 4..get ready for Butch Jones part 6. This admin gives no craps about winning. It doesn't embarrass them to be life champions that get skull drug on Saturdays.

To be fair, we could be life champions six years running. That is what they call a dynasty.
