I think that's true. Their kids have been born and raised there and I've heard that Mrs. Mullen likes Starkville.

Stay at MSU and leave as the best coach they've ever had or leave for a bigger school with higher expectations but better chance at national prominence.

Either way he's a rich man, which is why I feel like it's more than just about money.

Both the Mullens rave about Starkville in interviews. TEHO.

I think it's about more than money for many of these top prospects. They already have more money than they can spend-- or are in a position to get there-- so having a job they like in a community they like is an intangible we won't be able to overcome with some. I tend to put Patterson, Petersen, Fuente, Whittingham, Gundy et al in that category.

Yet both programs constantly fire coaches (for whatever reason). Our fans show up regardless.

Tennessee fires coaches too.

You are talking about how easy it is to get fired. I am talking about pressure and scrutiny.

If you win, none of it matters cause you aren't worried about it. If you don't win enough, this is a much tougher environment to work in even if you might get fired somewhere else quicker.

I don't think we are that far off in our stances on this.

That's the consensus here in Starkville. I'm convinced that any speculation you may hear is his agent fanning the flames to get Mullen more money, an extension, and/or facilities upgrades after a pretty good season by MSU standards.

There are a lot of people who believe a lot of things about that situation.

Of course Hargis has no one he ever talks to about it. No friends whatsoever in East Tennessee and neither does a D 1 coach who has family and friends he grew up with whom he talked about it with. Hart was the problem and Currie may or not be as well. Maybe Currie doesn't think it is worth the investment and is trying to show that to boosters. No more from me Jave. Everyone but you is just trolling.

Coaches with better results are getting fired/more scrutiny at Florida than they are here. That’s all I’m saying.

Pretty sure Mullen is gonna turn Florida down again. Not sure his family enjoyed their time there.

We may go through coaches after a few years, but Florida eats winning coaches and spits them out. Meyer couldn't even stand to be there.

You ever been to Eugene or are you just talkin out your ass?

I’m looking at history, which shows you can’t win a natty recruiting to Eugene.

Don’t worry champ, I’m not personally taking shots at where you live or something or why you’re so sensitive about it

Just went to school there but you know more about it apparently its hard to recruit to THE Nike school. Also what the F is a "natty?" Sounds incredibly stupid and cheap, who would want one of those?

Ask Bruin, I’m repeating his verbiage.

Ahh, okay. Makes sense why you’re sensitive about it. Apologies for offending you.

So defensive about your grumors lol

More competition for that talent at Florida as well with Florida State and Miami going after the same talent.

Tennessee might not be Florida when it comes to producing talent but its about to surpass Louisiana. And I don't think anyone would say that a state that produces more talent than Louisiana is something to sneeze at.

If Tennessee starts producing about 20 4-star players a year like the 2019 class is projected to do them this job becomes as good as the Florida job given the fact there is less competition for those recruits inside the state.

Plus you are a three and a half hour drive from Atlanta and Charlotte. Clemson won a national title last year with 20 kids from GA and 20 from North Carolina.

I've been to Starkville but it was back in the 70s so I'm sure much has changed. My recollection is it was remarkably unremarkable.

Anyway, having read where Mullen's wife would escape to Orlando to shop made me Google to see how much Starkville had changed since I was there. Since my "research" had to do with Mrs. Mullen, I obviously Googled Starkville shopping. Here's the link to the University Square...

starkville shopping - Google Search

I got a grin out of it...
