Matt Campbell is not going to outcoach the talent that Bama has, UGA is building, and UF is apparently committed to getting back to. We need the Jimmies and Joes. If it's all scheme and Xs and Os, hire Chip Kelly and be done with it because he's the best.
He's the classic "under the radar coaches". When he gets more looks, it'll probably be different.

Why should fans wait until next year? They have been waiting for ten years. You may be right about it having no affect. I didn't say I was agreement with the 'position'. I simply said I would not criticize them, as many have, for trying to get the attention of 'the powers that be'.

I just disagree is all I was meaning. Doesn't make me right and them wrong. I've been a ticket holder for 20 years so I understand the side of the fan.

They don't miss out on any concessions. We have a contract with the concession company.

Flat rate pre negotiated, slight bump if agreed threshold is exceeded.

Local business is the loser, voice heard would be season ticket purchasing for next year.

Anyone not coming to remaining games this year hurts the University none this year.

Again, only way to speak with money would be next season ticket and apparel purchase along with stopping the alum donations.

If this is true, we need to tell the Empty Neyland people that.

But again, he's not coached in 9 years and has had no involvement in the college game in 29 years. How is this a slam dunk?

It's not like he's been on the golf course everyday. His involvement in camps, being around programs, and MNF have kept him around the game just as much as anyone else. Recruiting would be an instant success. Tennessee does a good job of recruiting itself with the facilities, tradition, and SEC. Add Jon Gruden and I seriously believe recruits beg to come to Tennessee. Top athletes want to go pro. You wouldn't trust Jon Gruden, Mr. MNF, Mr. Evaluate and interview our first round picks, Mr. Super Bowl coach, to do that?? Haven't you seen him break down game film? He knows his x and o's. This would be a slam dunk, with .2 on the clock, getting fouled, hitting your free throws, and beating a LeBron James / Michael Jordan robot clone. It would just be that perfect man.

Do you think the AD and boosters don't understand this?

Well the past 10 years would say they haven't, if it takes something extreme to get their attention then so be it.

No need to call people non fans and what not cause they're choosing a peaceful way to protest the crap that's been put out there the past 10 years

Edit: and I'm not saying you're calling people non-fans specifically, just overall that's what I've seen

I get why everyone wants Gruden, huge name, big splash, etc., etc. But the reality of hiring him is mind boggling to me. The rumor is he's been offered $10 mil a year, right? Okay, say he takes the job. Now we have a coach that's been out of coaching for almost a decade, and has had ZERO involvement in the college game for almost THREE DECADES. That means his entire coaching staff has to be extremely well versed at coaching, recruiting, AND the college rules and regulations. How much will it cost to fill out his staff with those coaches? Right now, CBJ has 11 postitions staffed. To bring the best of the best, which will be necessary with Gruden's lack of knowledge on the college game, we'd be looking at somewhere around another $10 mil per year. So now the university is on the hook for ~$20 mil per year, with ZERO guarantees of it being an upgrade.

Somebody tell me why this is better than say, Matt Campbell at ISU? He's knocked off 2 Top 5 opponents this year, which is 2 more than CBJ has done in 5 years.

If you’re worried about recruiting under Gruden, you’re crazy. That’s one of the big reasons we want him. His name alone would bring in talent, especially at QB. It would not cost much to hire a recruiting consultant that can keep him up to date on all the rules. You don’t have to shell out millions for a position like that.

He may not have coached in a while, but he understands game management and play calling better than anyone. He could throw any average coach in at OC and it wouldn’t matter because he will be the brains behind the offense. The next highest paid person on the staff will have to be the DC. Preferably someone with SEC experience.

I don’t think the 10 million figure is accurate. I understand that’s the rumor, but I’m sure it will come in lower than that.

They are supposed to be learning life lessons right? Well here is one, be careful who you hitch your wagons to. They were sold snake oil and are learning as much.

You are talking about 18 year olds who want to play football. They also want a good person to lead them. I believe Butch is that person- just not a very good football coach. If that makes you feel better, then good for you.

I get all that, and it is 100% accurate. However, the issue is perception. These "big" guys have egos bigger than their wallets. Seeing 60k in Neyland on Homecoming on a nationally televised brodcast is extremely embarrassing for the "brand" of UT. A negative national perception is more important to these guys than that. No, it won't hurt the bottom line this year. What it does is erode the brand, making their prior investments worth less. Having 35k rammer jammers raining down on Shields Watkins field was the nail for Fulmer. These guys don't enjoy looking weak.

Where's the article hitting the points of what paying Saban all this money has done for the University of Alabama. The man is worth every penny and probably more. Having a successful coach can easily help the academic side as well. That's been proven. Anyone questioning paying a coach that much money should just look to Alabama.

Matt Campbell would be an extremely underwhelming hire. He’s a google coach... If he is announced as our next HC, at least 3/4 of the fan base will have to Google him to know who he is.

Where did I call them non fans?

I edited my post after your reply, didn't mean to say you specifically, just what I've seen in general on this board and in facebook and what not

Didn't mean for it come off that way, sorry bout that.

The daily why would we want Gruden anyway? post

I don't have time to keep up with posts that are at 270 pages after a day. I said in my first post, I get it's a big name and would make a huge splash, I just don't understand why everyone thinks it's a slam dunk. 29 years out of college coaching is more time than away from the game than a very large portion of the people on this board have been alive, I would guess. Maybe he takes it. If he does, I hope he f'ing kills it and dominates the SEC.

I'm all in unless someone else is named coach or they announce Butch is coming back. Honestly though, it's starting to feel like 2012 again. Really hope I'm wrong on that.

Soon
