Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

They are just telling you that the coach is not the only person to go see. The players are the ones that need support. It is deemed selfish by fans when all they look at is the coach. I don't know how that can be debated. There are many moving parts with this situation.

Showing up on Saturday has no bearing on Butch Jones being coach although I understand not spending the time to go.

They are supposed to be learning life lessons right? Well here is one, be careful who you hitch your wagons to. They were sold snake oil and are learning as much.

I agree. I meant more in a sense that Currie better not wait to get the ball rolling when Butch is announced so poor choice of words on my part. At least have your guy. I'm for sure not in favor of acting quick to save a recruiting class. I'm just really really really hoping Currie shows some balls

I am with you completely ... just seems he doesn't get it

Here's the real test for the #EmptyNeyland crowd. If Butch is retained, are you willing to give up your season tickets? If you're on the waiting list, are you willing to have you're name removed by eliminating your donation? Otherwise, you're making a statement in optics, not in real action.

I don't have them -- I know a few who do...and at least one pair of ticket holders would be done if he's retained.

I honestly don’t think our administration is smart enough to have a smokescreen for something else. Either Gruden is the main guy OR fans like us want it so bad that we created the buzz. Who knows? The administration might be doing nothing. Let’s hope for the best.

Thanks for letting the secret out.

There is no waiting list. I bought season tickets off and on for the last 5 years and my brother in law bought season tickets for the 1st time 2 years ago.

I get this uneasy feeling that the #empty people are going to do to the Gruden operation what the Trump campaign did to the RNC. There could be a shocking spectacle and then the insiders are going to take their ball and go home. I get not going as a protest, but that can be done silently.

But that's just it, in this situation, if MIT and others are to be believed, then you have ONE MAN against a whole University, AD and numerous big money boosters there is no way one man can hold that up, no way.

If Currie has that much backing, he'd be untouchable if he got Gruden here. What would Haslam do then?

If the given information is true, then there is no way one man, no matter who he is, could hold this up, not with that many others on the other side. This isn't a jury trial here.

When that "one man" has a last name of Haslam. Yes, if could be one man vs the balance of the boosters, but that one man wields a pretty big stick. He donates both athletically and academically (buildings carry his name). His son is the Gov, which is also the head of BOT. You don't go against that easily. It takes a little finesse and gamesmanship.

Thank you. So the folks exuding confidence (done deal...100%) can only be referring to one piece of the puzzle which suggests their confidence is being overstated in reference to the whole deal. So, no no one, Currie...JG, actually know what's going to happen. It's a fun ride though.

please don't twist what i said to fit some narrative.

i didn't say there are no insiders on this board.

i said you and me don't know what's going on, so it's best to understand how fluid this situation is, and let it play out, rather than get bent out of shape if it doesn't happen the way we thought it should or were told it would.

Or loudly, have the largest tailgate in NCAA history. Just stay out of the stadium.

I think the Empty Neyland thing is a bad idea too, but that's just my opinion. The seniors deserve better.

Yes they do. They deserve to be in a position to win.

A well run AD and boosters make this possible. The fans, not so much. I'm some what conflicted about the 'Empty Neyland' push, but I do understand that it's definitely not directed at the players. It's a shot at the AD and boosters in the only way fans can make themselves heard.

After the last ten years of putting up with this crap, I'm not going to criticize fans for making a statement in a way in which it will be noticed.

I get why everyone wants Gruden, huge name, big splash, etc., etc. But the reality of hiring him is mind boggling to me. The rumor is he's been offered $10 mil a year, right? Okay, say he takes the job. Now we have a coach that's been out of coaching for almost a decade, and has had ZERO involvement in the college game for almost THREE DECADES. That means his entire coaching staff has to be extremely well versed at coaching, recruiting, AND the college rules and regulations. How much will it cost to fill out his staff with those coaches? Right now, CBJ has 11 postitions staffed. To bring the best of the best, which will be necessary with Gruden's lack of knowledge on the college game, we'd be looking at somewhere around another $10 mil per year. So now the university is on the hook for ~$20 mil per year, with ZERO guarantees of it being an upgrade.

Somebody tell me why this is better than say, Matt Campbell at ISU? He's knocked off 2 Top 5 opponents this year, which is 2 more than CBJ has done in 5 years.

Again, if MIT and others are to be believed, it doesn't matter what his name is, who his son is, he can not stop a majority vote, and if he was able to do you think that someone might not finally try and take steps to remove him from the board? Especially if that many are against him.

I just don't buy it, not with all the info that's been posted in these threads. Cause if the threat of other boosters pulling money has been put out there then obviously they hold some form of sway.

And if they don't try and override him, then they're spineless and don't deserve to be making any decisions for this university.

I have figured everything all out...the last crumb has fallen. This has been planned I would guess since the loss last year to USCjr and Hurd leaving. I'm about 50 pages behind and I'm going to get caught up before I post anymore. I will say this. Anyone who has done MDNP for a LARGE scale long term operation will understand every dynamic involved. For those who think I'm being cryptic, I am. This is WAY above my pay grade. The tactics in play would make Gen. Neyland himself proud. I'm no insider, no troll, and this is all COMPLETELY based off of my problem solving skills and military experience. I can be 100% wrong on EVERYTHING I have said but I doubt it. I will say that I BELIEVE this will happen. If it doesn't the fallout will be as many have said before and the divide will only deepen.

Edit: I see where I was wrong before and were I was right. I will not dox or insinuate who ANYONE is. I will say I stand by my previous posts that this is a major operation to make UT and UT Football elite again. Bravo to those involved. I am 100% behind you.

You and others (you know who they are) are analyzing the information from a methodical and unemotional perspective. Kudos to you all.

Successful negotiators, identify influencers (internal and external) and leverage those elements to achieve their goal. One side has analyzed that dynamic and stepped outside the box to use it to their advantage.

Currie NEEDS this hire. As mentioned in one of the posts, if the competing faction does not confuse their WANTS with NEEDS, then we stand a good chance at bringing this home.

What is the message to the AD and boosters at this point?
