Official Jon Gruden Thread XXV

Spoke to one of my guys in the AD this morning. If you remember I said that Butch would not coach USM and that came from a booster. That could still be in play but I would lean toward that being wrong. Whatever happened Sunday seems to have upset the apple cart. Now if you go back before that one of my AD guys said “we think it will be after bama”. Keep in mind that was opinion and things have been really tight. Oddly enough the guy I spoke to this morning called me last night and I missed the call. He left me a message to call him today. So that brings us up to said conversation this morning. We discussed things like empty Neyland which the general consensus is that is seen as a childish way to get attention. The reason being is that everyone involved knows exactly the pulse of the fan base. I also made the statement about John being a genius or inept to which he replied the former not the latter. Needless to say I asked about Butch being let go and people being afraid if somehow a miracle occurs has something changed that would allow him to stay. The answer was what is done is done. I asked about damaging TN by keeping him in place and Was told. It is far more damaging to remove a coach mid season and that lesson was learned with Phil. Another tid bit is that a lot of these guys come from fatherless homes and see Butch as a father figure like it or not it really hurts players regardless of what fans think. No further information was given and I did not press the issue I took it as what I have been told from the booster side he is done. We discussed multiple coaches and it was just two friends talking opinions. From that conversation I believe that no one is absolutely off the table. Now for all the cloak and dagger people it seems like information is starting to come out and I thought it interesting that I was contacted to “catch up”.

I take this to mean our man is still in discussion.. hope I am right .... did you have the impression that he is a LONG shot? Please excuse my questions because I DO NOT want to place you in any more of an awkward position than you already are!

No one from the University of Tennessee has said the name Gruden. It doesn't make sense for ESPN to mention anything either.

With regards to Empty Neyland, what are we, a mob? Go to the game if you want to, don't if you don't. Don't start a damn movement. What are we going to do next week, tear down the Torchbearer?

Growing rumors that if Butch gets to a bowl game, he gets one more year??? It’s on every board that is what Currie supposedly told him.

No way, right? I don’t see it.

If this is true, then all of the JG discussions are not. There's no way someone like Jon Gruden, who can get an NFL HC job in 5 minutes, is going to allow himself to be strung along in that way.

I simply cannot imagine Currie is going to tell JG that we have a great offer for you, includes this, this and this. But, by the way, if CBJ makes the Poulan Weedeater Bowl, the deal's off. He's still our guy.

That's ridiculous. We'd never even get him to the table.

I think the naysayers are of three minds.

The first are those who genuinely have doubts and concerns. They can be identified by their politeness in asking probing questions and their genuine desire to hear all perspectives.

The second are people who can not grasp complicated, dynamic and fluid situations. They are easily confused. Their confusion causes them to be quick to anger when something doesn't go exactly as planned or as predicted; Thus leading to name calling and saying others are FOS. Again, they simply can't grasp multi-dimensional concepts.

The third are people that are iconoclasts by nature and revel in tearing things down. These people have never done anything of note in their lives and seek joy in making others miserable as they do not have the tools to make themselves happy or to be satisfied with the lives they have made.

This.

Just an opinion...There is NO way Gruden will be in Knoxville this weekend....people would make his life miserable. For the same reason I dont see him moving here. Its not fair for him to troll the program if he is living in Knoxville.

Beaver's story continually changes.

It's honestly hilarious when you sit back and look at it. I said he's the best troll ever, but he's forgotten rule# 32 of trolling: don't post too much or you'll contradict yourself and your story starts to unravel.

Honestly?

I've been firm on this not happening, for several reasons.

I've put many pieces of info together, including personal info I've gathered.

Long story short. As of today, I absolutely believe there is a "deal" and Gruden is on board.

I also believe it can get blown up with a flip of a switch.

What about his story has unraveled so far? I'll hang up and listen.

The "Poulan Weedeater Bowl." Now that's funny.

What are the chances Haslem family wants Gruden as option for the browns instead...so they would try and nix him at UT?

He has matured quite a bit. I would welcome him back. If Haslam doesn't get his head out of his ass.

Exactly. We got very minor penalties from his sanctions. I think the worst was reducing the number of recruiting visits by 2 or 3 and couldn't have visits for a couple of games.

I would take winning big with minor penalties to this current BS.

Unfortunately in today’s environment, more so than previous decades, stud athletes attend the college that will provide the best shot at making the pro ranks and are less concerned about a degree that they can always come back and earn.

If relaxing the academic requirements just a smidge gets the stud that is missing our cutoff by a couple of points, why wouldn’t you want to be on the same level field with other colleges in recruiting said athlete. Those couple of athletes we miss out on could be the difference in a big time bowl or a championship and the additional monetary payouts/funding those events provide.

Why would any new coach want to start recruiting already behind the 8 ball, compared to rival schools, on borderline academic athletes?
