I don't get all the spinning and subterfuge. If Gruden wanted to coach at UT and opened negotiations, UT would have fired CBJ weeks ago and started working on a deal. Hoke is in line to be interim and he would have stepped right in. That would have been better for everybody. UT isn't going to block Gruden and he isn't going to make a deal without his agent.

. @ucf_marcdaniels said as of today no one has contacted Scott Frost or his agent. Marc said people claiming to have sources are lying

Just like UF had no talks about firing Mac or reducing his buyout

At the college level? Frost has accomplished much more than Gruden. It's a totally different job than coaching in the NFL.

Gruden attracts talent immediately and was successful at the level these kids dream of reaching. Frost still needs to prove it at this level. With that said, I like frost as an option.

Nobody is doubting he gave a donation to OB79.

And volitil knows his actual name and who he is but won't tell anyone including OB's wife because that was the stipulation for AV to match all donations. Also, done deal was more on agreement between Gruden and boosters. It was not without AA obstacles. Believe what you want.

I asked LWS the following, respect his opinion more than any other on Volnation. This is his stance at this point.

You think Kelly or Gundy gets a look? Also, what's your opinion on Gruden now?

I'm at 2% on Gruden. Just never thought it close to happening. He ends up following his head (doesn't like college coaching) rather than his heart (friendships and love for Tennessee). Heard this morning dead but I understand we have people that will continue to call him

Kelly won't get into the SEC anywhere..

Gundy ain't leaving Oklahoma St and I seriously doubt we would even look his way. He has played us twice for raises.

Here is what I see as the risk associated with each of these guys (again, JMO):

Kelly (recruiting, culture, longevity, NCAA)
Frost (experience, maturity, recruiting, Nebraska)
Kiffin (maturity, burned bridges, NCAA)
Calhoun (recruiting, success)
Doeren (experience, success)
Houston (experience)
Morris (experience, success)
Taggart (success)
Campbell (experience, recruiting, success)
Tee Martin (experience, success)
JBC (experience, success, recruiting)

We are not in a place where we need to take a risk. We need a sure thing.

Problem is, when Frost has had a chance to prove it on this level, we will be mired in regret. Just like recruiting HS players. You see how they produce, judge their potential, and take the best available

Possible that they're waiting on the cuts from ESPN? Clay Travis had an article out, and he's been proven right on all things ESPN, that stated that they can no longer afford MNF.

I don't buy it. Tennessee hiring Gruden would be the talk of the country. Would immediately put us back on the map. Recruiting would take off.

If you have him you announce it as soon as you can.

He's not going to be the coach here.

I don't think so either. I was trying to understand why Butch is still the coach.

Not sure what that means. I ducked into the Gruden treads a few weeks ago when ATL and beaver were talking about golf courses. I didn’t see anything that could make me believe the guy wasn’t a troll.

I’m pretty sure atl just confirmed the guy had some information that made him think he was connected. That doesn’t sell me on any of it. Sorry.

I lived this exact same coaching search 5 years ago. Sorry I’m jaded.

He gave beaver his private contact after he vetted a few questions that would seem in his eyes to make him legit enough to have contact directly off this board.

Lol. LWS is the biggest Debbie Downer on the forum. He's right some of the time --- but not all the time. Taking his word for gospel is as dangerous as MIT beaver or some of the other folks.

Hell, I just get tired of hearing his negative stance on everything.

How do you know he hasn’t talked to them? No one has said anything either, but I’m just saying that u don’t know he hasn’t talked to them. It’s not a violation.

You really think Gruden is calling recruits and telling them "hey kid keep this on the down low." Lol.

I still think it goes back to trusted, time tested people have said Gruden doesn't want to coach in college.

If that is true, no plan would be bulletproof correct?

Absolutely, but that’s not what that side is saying. They are saying he has agreed to the terms of the deal, and that the obstacles from 2012 have been removed. From their end it sounds like he wants to coach, but when the rubber meets the road and it has to get through the powers that be or he signs his name, then everything may fall through. Who knows. We will see. As I said, bring me 1 of about a half dozen or so coaches, who would be considered as homeruns, and I’ll say, Let’s roll. If it’s Gruden, fantastic! He can probably get us there the fastest. If it’s Frost, fantastic. He can probably get us there, could be a very long term hire. Only thing that would concern me about gruden is how long would he stay here.

They're talking late November/early December for final decisions on that. With early signing and more competition for coaches, UT has to move forward.

The more incompetent blunders the UTAD makes, the more I find myself agreeing of LWS's point of view.

I will confess I find this whole process incredibly discouraging. Throughout the whole Butch era, I thought in the back of mind that if Butch failed we’d go big like Bama and Michigan to rescue the program from obscurity.

Sounds like we are trying to but can’t get the big splash hire.

Seems typical of all things UT sports related these days. First and goal and can’t get it in the end zone.

I’m leaning towards think Currie lands Bobo and tries to tell us it’s a homerun. Or tries to sell us on one more year for Butch to fix things.

I need a glimmer or ray of hope.
