I read somewhere tonight that there is in fighting between a couple of the coaches as to who will be the interim coach when Butch is gone.... If that is the case Currie knows it... He is buying time to work it out...

Coasty what is ur opinion on why Currie is waiting to make the announcement? I just don't get it! You seem to be in the know that butch has been notified he is done

I think the net either way is still the same. He gets his buyout reduced each day because he is making his current salary. It appears to me that firing him today or in 2 weeks results in the same payment by UT.

Isn’t his salary per year almost double his two million buy out per year? That doesn’t include all other benefits and perks. If so, In rough round numbers, while Butch is coach he makes 10k a day. Fired he makes 5k.

I didn’t think Gruden could be announced before his son’s season ended due to it being a recruiting violation.

Also wondering is ESPN is trying to secure the replacement for MNF before official announcement is made?

Mullen actually has a history of significant over performance but I’m very concerned about his ability to recruit. Petrino, similarly, has at points been the single largest over performer that I’ve ever seen, but his recruiting is stable and mediocre.

As all coaches are tethered to their talent, just with varying degrees of rope, those cats would win many games they shouldn’t (and certainly have net gains) but not enough to consistently challenge for championships. Having Petrino at UT would be an amazing experiment, I think. If he could keep recruiting in the top 15 it could be magical...before the potential implosion.

If we took Petrino, Brohm would go to L'ville and I would want him to be my plan B for Petrino implosion. As long as Brohm continues to have success that is.

Between AV, MIT, BCarter and the info I had shared with me about his buyout being finalized earlier in the week, COMBINED with Hubbs and VQ and WBIR saying he’s been fired.......rumors of meetings and the AD telling the press to be prepared.......he has to be gone tomorrow.

Nothing else makes sense.

No possible way they let him coach at home Saturday. No way. Not with homecoming going on. Stadium will be half empty.

Looks to me like the deed is done and somebody shut down the communication.

My guess? Curried fired him today. Several people know. Followed protocol for informing media, and Currie shut it down. Purpose? Who knows.

That's not the way I read it. He makes the same either way. Someone posted a spread sheet last week showing the payout over the next few years and it was the same amount every month.
