Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIV

I don't really see how a lame duck coach acts as much of a Safety Patrol. Would have been nice if he was on a ride-along with Kelly the other evening

Florida doesn't seem to be worried about their APR I terms of worrying about their players. Good grief I find it hard to believe Butch Jones is going to be the difference in players going to class. These players must realize at some point a coach is coming in and that they may want to be on his good side when he does. There is also their parents, and I am sure they don't won't them to flunk out. Even in the worst case if a player was wanting to transfer he wouldn't flunk out to do it. And most I would think would be pretty curious about who we do actually get and would want to be in good standing. Is it just me or does that not sound logical. SOON PLEASE JUST VERY SOON!

Beaver and DTO are correct when saying Butch is done. That deal was made almost 4 weeks ago. Reasons that insiders don’t need to say for us to see why that’s true.

1. Butch Jones hasn’t used twitter in over a month.
2. Recruits are not visiting and you’ll continue to see that until the next staff (saving officials for new staff)
3. AD won’t issue a statement supporting jones

Why it is good to keep butch until the new head coach is in place;

Butch is very good at making the kids attend class. Regardless of football he looks out for kids off the field as well. Keeping him through the season helps keep everyone in good standing academically for the new staff.

If you hire an interim and the players go wild and start skipping classes before Christmas break that’s a whole new issue that the new staff will have to face.

As much as we as fans want him gone now we have to think about the players and the future of our program. Not the instant gratification of the firing.

Don't know this poster, but this post (IF TRUE) gives me hope as it is very logical and I want to believe it... It is far better that a drive by that simply says "Don't worry, it is a done deal, 100%"

These stupid threads that people think are "funny" are getting out of hand. I wish the mods would step in and create a "Thread of Ridiculous Ignorance" to dump all this crap in. So much trash to wade through.

Dilly dilly.

Haha no problem. I look forward to your posts. It was either you or ape that told someone you would break their ribs if their post turned out to be a lie and it literally made me lol!

Go Vols!

Could have been either one of us if we don't like you. Or obsessed even lol.

That’s one of the reasons that I believe, they will announce his firing but let him coach out the season.

This makes sense. This kind of announcement would actually unite the fans IMO. You think they could/would announce Gruden and have them working “together” to keep things rolling?

Not buying the logic of Butch coaching because he will keep players in class for APR. Knowing that maintaining grades so they can play for new coach is a prerequisite should be incentive enuff. Anybody on staff can ride herd on that. Interim can sit their azz as easy as Butch.

But wasn't one of the rumors as to why he pushed martin out the door is cause Currie thought a player who kept getting into trouble should've been dismissed from yhe team and martin wouldn't do it

Martin had a lot of issues. Hit 2 of his players during a game, would not suspend players even when asked to by the compliance department, and publicly called out Currie for "meddling" in his discipline. The guy deserved to be fired and is now a better man because of it.

Can we all agree now that no one in this thread is an insider?

The only thing we can believe is what is currently occurring:

1.) Butch is not fired. Chances are, he finishes the season.
2.) Will he be retained next year? Butch seems confident that he has Currie's support.
3.) Has Butch lost the team? Doesn't look like it to me.
4.) Is the University of Tennessee committed to winning? The obvious answer is no.

And it doesn't work without Gruden being simultaneously announced.

Be careful of what you wish for. You might find yourself trapped in the net you’ve asked to be cast.

You would think an alien life form or JC himself was landing in Knoxville with all this chatter about Gruden. Give up on Gruden and go get a coach like Matt Campbell. Too much focus on this nonsense of Gruden when real focus should be on finding a good coach that realistically could be the next Vols HC.

Lol.

Monte Kiffin is old enough to remember when the Dead Sea got sick. Plus, we've been there and done that. The Tampa 2 is not all it's cracked up to be.

The real good'un... Mike Tomlin LOL

Yeah, leave the Steelers as HC to coach DBs at UT...

LOL Monte Kiffin as Defensive Coordinator? Monte Kiffin is 198 years old. In addition he's Lane's "Defensive Consultant" down in Florida, where people who are 198 years old retire.

No chance butch is here next year!

Spot on. The APR would stand to take a hit if Butch was fired this early. It's not just about the 3.5 hours on Sat. There's a lot that goes to run a program.

I agree with all of this BUT THAT ANNOUNCEMENT needs to come Very SOON
