I truly hope that doesn't happen. The players deserve better. If Jones and the Admin truly want the best for our student-athletes, they will not subject them to the negative fallout in Neyland that will occur with Butch on the field. IMO, it will be ugly.

It will be ugly. But I’m convinced the admin really doesn’t care anymore. They have shown they are fine with the meltdown and recruiting impact of it all.

Man, we need some good news in here....especially with the AD remaining tight lipped on our football situation. It’s maddening.

Actually, we need some Grude news lol.

Maybe Gruden is studying for his Recruiting (Certification) Test For Coaches. That way he can call recruits an tell em to chill on looking at other schools. Ha! Jk

Its awesome when a guy repeatedly says he is not interested in coaching college football, yet we have endless threads about his plan when he gets here

Me too. I've never seen so many lemmings running towards the henley street bridge to jump!

I’m not a jumper by any means. And I agree with Knuck, the season is a wash so it is what it is. The silence and even business as usual from our AD is what I’m baffled by. There can only be 2 options: We have our man and it’s all about timing or Currie really is inept and we’re screwed again.

-2, -2, -1, -1, currently -3. If he were to win out it would be -2 at best this year. Lose out and it’s -6. For comparison -1 is within a standard deviation from the mean.

If memory serves, Fulmer was fired at -4, Kiffin was -3 before he bolted, Dooley was -3, -3, and -4. I haven’t looked at those numbers in awhile so I’m close but won’t guarantee the actual net performance on prior coaches.

The typical threshold for firing anyone but Will Muschamp is about -4.

Wow, interesting. Sure feels worse than that.

I heard Gruden has already signed a contract extension through 2021 for ESPN.

Highly doubt he’d sign it if he knew he was ready to accept the UT job.

Gruden signing that extension increased what schools would have to pay to get him. If he was being pay $5mil a yr, schools would offer him $7 or so mil. With the extension they gotta pony up more.

That said paying Gruden money isn't the issue. It's the $ for staff, etc and control of who he can get in school. Bed and the girls aren't going to give that up. Better prepare for heartbreak.

The only way this works is if the recruits are notified that gruden will be coach next year..but there is no way recruits would be able to keep there mouth shut

Maybe not all the recruits but certain ones like Mays, the big fishes of the class

Because those are the 2 possibities, and Currie is widely known to be a sharp and shrewd businessman, which does logic dictate?

Beaver and DTO are correct when saying Butch is done. That deal was made almost 4 weeks ago. Reasons that insiders don’t need to say for us to see why that’s true.

1. Butch Jones hasn’t used twitter in over a month.
2. Recruits are not visiting and you’ll continue to see that until the next staff (saving officials for new staff)
3. AD won’t issue a statement supporting jones

Why it is good to keep butch until the new head coach is in place;

Butch is very good at making the kids attend class. Regardless of football he looks out for kids off the field as well. Keeping him through the season helps keep everyone in good standing academically for the new staff.

If you hire an interim and the players go wild and start skipping classes before Christmas break that’s a whole new issue that the new staff will have to face.

As much as we as fans want him gone now we have to think about the players and the future of our program. Not the instant gratification of the firing.

This is incredibly sound logic. Sadly, this morning, logic is not welcome here.
