-2, -2, -1, -1, currently -3. If he were to win out it would be -2 at best this year. Lose out and it’s -6. For comparison -1 is within a standard deviation from the mean.

If memory serves, Fulmer was fired at -4, Kiffin was -3 before he bolted, Dooley was -3, -3, and -4. I haven’t looked at those numbers in awhile so I’m close but won’t guarantee the actual net performance on prior coaches.

The typical threshold for firing anyone but Will Muschamp is about -4.

Swain in retweeted something along the lines of, as mad as we are the hire is more important than the fire. We would all did well to remember that.

My hopes couldn’t be anymore tampered. Lol. I’ve said all along I expect our AD to hire Bill Googlestein but hope for Gruden. I’ll hope for Gruden until it’s not him.

FWIW, Brent laughed at the idea of Gruden being hired for several weeks. When he was asked face to face last week if there was any truth to the grumors, he smiled and said, "You never know!" Before you ask, yes, I know him and witnessed it first hand.

Well, you are not talking $10m, you probably talking $100-130m. Of course, none of that guarantees anything, other than you are hiring a coach with minimum college recruiting experience and has been basically out of football nearly a decade.

Let's not pretend we know what Butch does or doesn't want to do. I'd argue that you'd be foolish to believe Butch wouldn't sabotage this program if given the chance. If what's been said is true, he has been given that chance.

Dooley wanted to coach, too, but you see where he ended up. Regardless of how much face Butch wants to save (and it's limited... the last 3 weeks have cemented Butch's legacy in the annals of catastrophe), his -want- to coach will land him in a similar position. No major program would give him the reigns as HC, unless they intend on inflicting a fatal wound.

If we fumble this hire, we won’t ever return to being a dominant team.

I truly hope that doesn't happen. The players deserve better. If Jones and the Admin truly want the best for our student-athletes, they will not subject them to the negative fallout in Neyland that will occur with Butch on the field. IMO, it will be ugly.
