Official Jon Gruden Thread XXII

Guys, think about this logically. The Grumors have reached fever pitch. The noise has moved from "he's NEVER coming to UT," to "WHY would he leave ESPN for UT," to "UT will never be competent enough to make it happen," to "well, he's HERE, he's just not going to coach."

Funny how every time the official "story" changes, it's changing in the direction we want to see. At this point, who is in more denial, the Grudenites or the folks who continue to ignore all the signs and portents right in their faces?

It was reported last night that he has bought a home in Knoxville.

THIS is true. A developer friend of mine was upset because he really thought his house would be under contract but realtor said they settled on a different home.

While coincidental things he said make me believe this was planned well before Butchs seat got hot and does not mean anything with regards to the job. Hopeful it's not just coincidence but that voice in my head says it could be.

What about Jim Bob or Tee as Head coach and Gruden OC/Assistant head coach. Since Jim Bob and Tee have never been head coaches they learn with Gruden. Gruden coaches 3 years and retires in Knoxville with family

The is answer no. He is a head coach.

Ok, ok. I get it. He’s a head coach. I’m just playing out scenarios in my head. What if he just wanted to get back into coaching one step at a time....OC first, then head coach 2 years later.

I want Gruden as HC, but what if he wants to test the waters of college football out first in a lesser role before diving in head first?

I’ve been told that a lot of those obstacles have been cleared.

I was just getting caught up for the day and came across this. I've been laying low after the attempted Beaver outing. (And to avoid saying the wrong thing at a sensitive time that could result in a Peyton-led horde of angry beetles hunting me down.)

Most people are asleep now, but maybe you'll see this tomorrow. Just wanted to remind you there's much more at play than the Peyton/Gruden relationship. That's obviously vitally important, but you have to keep in mind it's not just about convincing Gruden. He would expect certain changes to be made, and some in the UT administration aren't easily swayed by words alone, even Peyton's. And, like it or not, they have to be convinced in other ways if this is all going to work.

Yeah, I'm feeling much more relaxed about the doneness of the deal than this past weekend.

Quoting these just in case anyone else missed this exchange overnight besides me!

Good morning fellow Vols fans!

As I sit here enjoying my quiet time, my morning cup of coffee, and reflecting on the last twenty-four hours of our Coach Gruden discussion, I keep coming back to the Q & A video of him at NDSU. After watching it for the fourth or fifth time, the excitement for Coach Gruden intensified for me. Not only for what I believe will give us a competitive and competent football Coach, a highly desirable destination for top highschool athletes, but also for a Coaching press conference that will be almost as anticipated as the game. His football IQ is off the charts and will make for compelling, intelligent, and informative conversation and break down of the game. A much improved over view than the cliche ridden, blame shrugging, excuse heavy drivel that we have grown accustomed to over the past five years. I eagerly anticipate these informative discussions. Just another of the ever growing reasons that increase my desire to see Coach Gruden pacing the Big Orange sidelines.

Just my morning thoughts...

Hope everyone has a fantastic day and, as always...

Soon
Instead of "Butch Jones" show we will get the "Jon Gruden Show". Should be a ratings winner.

Can you answer one question for me? Swain says he’s permenantly moving to Knoxville, but why on earth would he do that and not coach?! Does Swain know jack**** or what??

My opinion would be that there's just too much info about a deal with Gruden out there now to blow it off as merely Grumors of wishful thinking. They are literally reduced to jumping from "he's never coming" to well, he's coming, but he's not going to be doing football.

It's all they have left to run with, since they can't acknowledge it until Butch is gone.

I think we can safely put to rest any ideas of Gruden being our OC. Unless y'all are just trying to push us into Gruden XXIII artificially. In which case I'd prefer to do that with gifs.

If he actually is fired after Kentucky like people have said in this thread, we’ll know **** just got real.

Not really. Because if he gets fired at the end of the season, they will just say...well, its was after the KY game, we just didn't say how long after the KY game

What you mean? Agree that he’s coming but not coaching?

That's my line of thinking right now. He loves to help UT and has been involved here and there for a long time. Just do not believe him moving here directly points to him become head coach. Too many factors suggest otherwise or at least that's my belief.

Exactly, we'll know by Monday at 5 who's "all hat" and who's got cattle.

If I hear something akin to "I've evaluated all aspects of our football family and decided that in the best interests of our team to step down..." then I'm sold on the grumors. I think I can wait three more days...maybe. GBO!

You expect us to go through all these **** years and coaches and get our dream coach and have him for just three years?

Has Beaver actually said Gruden would be head coach or Gruden is coming?

Win or lose, I don't think it will be a public "firing." I think a resignation or other "mutual" parting of ways was part of the consideration in exchange for a negotiated buyout.

Go back to bed. You obviously need more sleep.

If Gruden really didnt want anyone to know he was buying a house in knoxville he could have done it seems to me. I mean its Gruden, he has the cash to shut ppl up or just make it top secret. Could have had someone of his personal only to come to find the house then them get the keys from the realtor so know one else knew who was looking at the house. JMO.

While I CAN se this reasoning, especially if Gruden is coming here to retire .... but he has said several times iirc that he is preparing to coach again, why would he move everyone to Knoxville and the take a NFL job in another city and be away from his family..... I can see him moving here and still doing MNF but this thread has been saying he is going to be cut from ESPN???

Not necessarily disagreeing with you but just saying that either way can be plausible
