Whoa
Agree to disagree
most of us (me included) were very impressed with the off season coaching hires. Scott wound up being no bueno but at the time it seemed logical.
James Cook commited to Georgia 2night. I just don't get it, if they hang on to White, that makes three 5 star RBs to Georgia in the last 2 years, counting Swift.
it's football and its crap that one player gets protection simply because he throws a ball. Protection in the pocket? sure. once you're a runner you're just a dude. He went down with zero time to spare at best. I can't fault Kiko on that because if Flacco doesnt go down and kiko lets up, hes not doing his job.

it was a penalty. but not cheap or excessive.
The defensive hires were logical and impressive enough.
The offensive hires reeked of Butch stubbornly not wanting to implement any real change or bring in someone who might challenge him or want control of the offense.
Kiffin was definitely coming to LSU from Alabama to be the Tigers offensive coordinator, per multiple, multiple sources. And per Orgeron, whod included Kiffins name as OC on a projected coaching staff during his interview.
"I know probably and I cant blame them I know that Alabama probably didnt want him to come here," Orgeron says. "Im assuming they did everything they could to get him a head job. But he was honest with us. He said, Coach, Im coming to LSU unless I get a head job, and I want a head job.
"We thought he had the Houston job. He woulda been dynamite there. Dynamite. Then we hear about Florida Atlantic, and we didnt think hed take that. But he calls and says, Hey man, Im coming. Ive got one more meeting, and Im just going to listen to them. Ended up, he took the job."
The staff retrenched, preparing for a battle to land Matt Canada, the offseasons hottest coordinator candidate. With defensive coordinator Dave Aranda locked into a $1.8 million annual deal, Orgeron, with Allevas blessing, wanted an equally notable and compensated OC.
"The day we got him here, we knew Notre Dame, UCLA, Tennessee was all after him. Thats not all of them. These schools were just dying to get him. So we had to move. And the guy was wanted, so we had to make the right offer," Orgeron says.
Canada signed a $1.5 million annual deal, putting LSU at $3.3 million in coordinator pay. The moves fortify the Tigers with arguably the best coordinator duo in the game, a statement to those critical of Os acumen as a CEO. If either gets a head coaching or NFL gig, bring on the next bidding war.
"I dont look at any of those things as costs," Alleva says. "Those are investments. You make investments to improve. I look at the dollars that we spend on those guys as investments to be better."
Gonna take Grudens spot on MNF when Gruden comes to coach UT at a salary of $10m/year along with $9.5m/year for his staff. "We had to make the right offer," John Currie said, "I dont look at any of those things as costs. Those are investments. You make investments to improve. I look at the dollars that we spend on those guys as investments to be better."

I have no interest in defending Butch Jones in anything at all but I don't think the situation we ended up with regarding our offensive staff was his first choice.
