I’ve heard a couple times in the last few years that it was never a money or control issue. Heard Jon wanted a title placed after Head Coach and Hart was a no go.

My buddy in Knoxville was all Gruden texts for quite a while, to the point of pending announcement within 36 hrs. Went to sleep happy, woke up to text saying no Gruden, no convo happening between he and Hart, then he went comms silent. Shortly after that is when it started to make the rounds that we weren’t getting Jon and the “official” AD story came out.

I don't see the big deal in his analogy at all. Manning is not going to be the decision maker. But he is and was a vital player in getting it all together. It actually makes perfect sense from that perspective. Without Manning it probably never gets to this point, but he can't make the decision it isn't his call. Now if they don't make the call and the AD and others mess this up, Tennessee fans are going to be HOT and with very good reason. I have to have faith if we can get Gruden that the powers to be will not mess it up a 2nd time. If they go another route and it fails and this comes out as how it went down, it's will be beyond UGLY. SOON!!!! GET IT DONE!!!!! GBO!!!!

My thing is Gruden was definitely interested in 2012 to be the next coach at UT, just never came to be. “Timing wasn’t right” as JG stated. I personally believe that Hart (and others) didn’t make it there 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th....you get the point priority. Believe Gruden wanted to be wooed and the people at UT at the time didn’t put in what needed to be put in. I’m sure there were other factors as well, but JMO that’s why it fell through. Now, in 2017, I believe we are in a much better place for JG as coach at UT to be a reality. Different administration, Peyton and Fulmer envolved, and actually a team that could be pretty damn good with the right staff. Closing, I’ll never root against my Vols, but if losing this weekend is a catalyst for Butch’s departure, I won’t be too heartbroken. Him gone is the start of UT’s climb back to the promise land! Jus my two cents.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go outside this thread. The rest of VN has lost their minds....lots of folks saying if butch wins out or loses close to Kentucky or LSU he should stay one more year.

What the he!! are they smoking out there?!

The beaver came in and used a chess analogy of how things have went down. Basically said Manning got it together but is not the one that is calling or called the final shot. Coasty took it as a bad thing, and took his analogy different than most. You don't have to go back real far, I will try to find the page.SOON!!!!!
