Maybe that was part of the problem at some point in time, but at this point it does not matter at all what he says or does not say, or tries or tries not to do. Every single time he talks, the media and our fan base finds something stupid to take out of context and ridicule him for.

No doubt. I've said it before and I'll say it again - there's a purge coming with whatever coach takes the job. Which is why any schedule prediction at this juncture are asinine.

You really have to wonder how-- and why-- CBJ got so offtrack on discipline. Did it start in 2016 when he started letting some players decide when to work out or how hard to practice? Or was it already starting in 2015... or even before?

Crazy part is these were all supposed to be good kids part of his character profile. They probably are but when you lose trust then what can you do. I bet we have some leaders somewhere but when they aren't on field it's hard to lead from bench

It's not this weed stuff that makes me say it. Adults should be able to smoke pot any time they want.

The problem is deeper.

Just one man's opinion, but going into 2016 was the first time he's ever had a roster full of NFL bound players that he was 1) responsible for and 2) had made certain promises to beforehand.

Some people just can't manage this level of athlete. He's one of them.

Sometimes, with just a few grams, it's not even diversion. Go to a drug class and can get it dismissed. Even though it's still illegal, some DA's are letting go of cases with small amounts of marijuana.

Yep. My bet's on dismissal. Still disappointing, though.

Fair enough, but if our fans do this crap to the next coach too, we will never be successful. Every coach (even Saban) could be excerpted out of context and made into a joke by willing fans and media. Why our people insist on participating in doing that to our coach is beyond me.

I think it started after the end of the regular season in 2015. That’s when the Jalen Hurd transfer talk started.

Oh I’m with you. The media in this town is a big problem IMO. Way too many of them and they are mostly “gotcha” types. Need more jimmy and Brent’s and less of the rest.

The fans and the media will have no bearing on whether the next coach is successful.

I'm thinking it started in 2015 with Hurd and a few others. Started taking off practices, skipping workouts, being late to team meetings, threatening to quit when things didn't go their way. Then it really snowballed in 2016... and now we're at where we're at.

That's what I meant. The offseason between 2015 and 2016. And for the same reasons. Hurd heard from NFL scouts (and his flawed advisors) that he was being wasted in Butch's offense and that it was hurting his draft stock. He goes to Butch to remedy it, Butch promises to run more I-formation, but then does not follow through.

What I'm about to say I have no way to verify and have heard it 3rd and 4th hand so take it with a grain of salt, but I've heard that there was going to be mass exodus to the NFL after the 2015 season. Sutton, Kamara and Reeves-Maybin were all but gone. We all know this stuff goes on behind the scenes in college athletics, but from what I've heard, Butch upped their under the table "payments" to get them to stay. Which I don't care about nor do I think only happens at Tennessee. However, the problem comes in when you do that and then allow said players to hold it over your head in order to get out of tough workouts and team functions. It creates a divide that younger players can see and when it is their time, they know you're a pushover and can be manipulated.

IDT Currie's going to want that sort of backlash. First offense misdemeanor means diversion. It's going away unless there are undisclosed prior offenses.

I predict neither plays vs Kentucky. That’s just my guess based on the vibe around the program right now.
