I think Mullen would kill it here. The level of recruits at Tennessee is not the same at MSU. QB guru. And God knows we need that.
Hes way up my list not that anyone cares
Okay since it looks like most on here have a hard on for Mullen for some reason, then he absolutely cannot have the same ceiling as Butch. The ceiling is an SEC championship minimum- we are supposed to be upgrading the coach, so expectations better be upgraded and expected.
Otherwise just keep the caretaker and continue to suck...
Around 9 is what I said
I see a single 10 win season standing along a lot of 8 and below
I will preface by saying Mullen would be an absolute improvement over what we have now. My issue with Mullen is the UGA game this year. There is nothing about that game that showed he is a superior coach to Smart. He may recruit better at UT than Starkville, but he will still likely be behind UGA and Bama in talent. I have yet to see that he could beat teams of that caliber with teams of our talent level.

We'd be 9-3 next year with a shot at 10+ and an SEC title in his second year if we get him.
He would average 2-3 wins better then he is getting at MSU here at UT and hes averaging like 8 wins a year.
You all have to think about how well he would utilize our talent and coach them up to their fullest abilities.
He is taking teams with the 2nd or 3rd worst talent in the SEC every year out of high school and getting them into the upper mid level of the SEC each year.
If our talent is upper mid in the SEC he would have us right at the top.
Do I think he would have TN at a Saban level dominance? Absolutely not. But do I think Mullen would have TN hovering in that 9-11 regular season win # almost every year with a special season every 3-5 years? absolutely.
He would be a fantastic hire as long as he could build a good staff of recruiters and DC which I'm sure our budget and his reputation would facilitate.
I've said this before, but hiring Dan Mullen would feel a lot like when LSU hired Les Miles. Everyone could see he was a very good coach at Oklahoma State but his record there (from memory) was good - but not earth shattering.
When he got to a program that offered everything needed to succeed everything clicked for him. I think a similar thing would happen for Mullen at UT.
