The AD saves a few million, a few egos are stroked, some back are patted during a few rounds of golf, and meanwhile Jack Jones is never going to play the game again, while his head coach trots out and blames him and his teammates for HIS failures.

How does the AD save a few million? His contract year dates are though February. It is prorated on a day for day basis.

The only way he saves a few million is by not firing him next year.

Maybe BUTCH is the interim coach.

Currie: “Were going to go a different direction but I have an idea. I’m willing to keep you on board and give you a vote of confidence and help you find the next fit for you and you will help us get through this season. You will continue to coach this team, try to win as many games as you can and keep things vanilla in front of the media and the team. Business as usual. This arrangement is affective as of 10/1. Rather then being fired and tarnish your image, we will appreciate all you’ve done for TN. In exchange, your buyout will be reduced to ____ million and you get to salvage your hire ability. Also, Jimmy, feel free to reach out to teams and begin the process to help Butch. Let me know if I can help. I know many ADs and will be glad to make a call.”

Butch and agent: “well take it.”

Or Currie is just an idiot.

Does Currie have Butch's buyout in his back pocket? No. He is a puppet for Daddy Haslem. When he is told to pull the trigger thats when he will do it im sure.

Unless Currie has negotiated a lower buyout as I believe.

But you know what, let's say it doesn't save a penny for the AD. That makes it even less defensible to allow Butch out there as the face of your program running down these players.

He looked relaxed during the press conference. I don't think he is going anywhere thus year. I hope I'm wrong!!!!!

I am trusting what I heard.... maybe wrong... so much false information out there right now .... if he loses at Kentucky he will 0-5 in SEC ... my source does not ?think? he can survive that... I agreed

Let me stress this was his opinion and NOT solid proof

SB Nation’s Kansas State blog on Currie

Were I a Vol, however, my greatest concern would be this: Currie's strength is not a strength Tennessee NEEDS; he hauled in big-boy money from a fanbase which is geographically limited (which, to be fair, is also a testament to the fanbase), but he won't have to wring blood from a stone in Knoxville. Which means the thing Tennessee needs him for the most is managing coaches, and that's something he at best hasn't proven he can do and at worst has sort of shown he can't.

Possible proof that the administation does not care about the product on the field. They only see $$$$$$$

Not sure where you went to school, but I graduated from Cleveland. I can think of at least three kids that went to MIT from when I was there. Its a good school, but you guys are ridiculous if you don't think there are people from all over there.

I graduated from Cleveland too. No one I know went to anything remotely resembling an Ivy league school and we had 9 kids in our senoir class make a perfect score on the ACT. 32 had a 4.0. We had a few go to Vandy, a couple to Georgia Tech and I think one went to Emory. You may be telling the truth, but I find it very hard to believe that you knew 3 kids that went to MIT out of your class.

I believe he has been told he can save his job with a certain amount of wins.... at first I did not buy this.... but that seems evident by his posture that he is not worried about loosing his job... I think he believes he can win... all coaches do, but that would take a miracle

If he wins at Kentucky I think he will coach next home game.... I doubt he wins, but could happen...

I think he loses at Kentucky he will not coach next home game

Again just my ideas from what I hear

Why the he!! are they allowing him to take it that far? I just do not get it. The man obviously has lost control of this program and has no chance of motivating these players to better things.

Butch gets at least another week, he isn't gone tomorrow. They wouldn't let him do a press conference today just to fire him tomorrow. Welcome to the cellar, when's basketball season start again?
