If we hire Chad Morris that will be another white flag hire.

Chad Morris is a good coach and was a big name a couple of seasons ago. I remember being worried he'd go to an SEC school. He possibly had one of biggest rebuilds in D1 and has been pretty solid.

I understand wanting a big splash though.

It's comical to see all these players and coaches talk about "get behind us as we try to get to a bowl game." No. That is not the standard here. Butch has thoroughly brainwashed this entire program.

I feel bad for the players and appreciate the tough spot they're in, but we should not be scratching for a bowl in any coach's 5th year.

It's infuriating. It's like some bum with a smoking hot wife who tries to brainwash her into thinking she's not too good for him. The longer Jones stays around the less I appreciate anything he's done here. I'm to the point now where I'm really not impressed with anything that he's done.

Need to get this off my mind once and for all because it matters for who they choose as the next "legacy" coach at the football program I love.

If they hire a coach that wants to be a coaching conference motivational speaker again, I'm done listening to any interviews or pressers. I cringe every time I hear his words like the "best staff in America" and "the system is infallible" that started it all off to the resiliency, complimentary football, champions of anything but football, etc. We don't need a cliche machine that talks down to the fanbase and feels like he needs to educate the uneducated. I am no fan of the media, but he deserves every flaming he receives with his BS. There are dozens of posters on here and personal coaching friends that know as much or more of what the real world is with this football team than he does. He needs to man up and accept a reasonable buy-out, call Two Men and a Truck, load up the family, and head back to Meeeshegan.

I am appreciative of his real desire to embrace Vol tradition, energy and enthusiasm spent toward building a competitive roster, and APR improvement. However, he missed out on the greatest opportunity he will ever have to be at the top as a coach because he simply cannot get out of his own way and personally grow as a leader and at the game of football. It's just not in his DNA. If he gets back in he needs to drop back a couple of steps.

Good post. I do not want a coach who can "win the press conference." That's so stupid it isn't even funny. I want a football coach. I want somebody who can evaluate, develop talent, and who's great at the X's and O's. I don't want another freaking used car salesman. That's completely unnecessary at Tennessee. Win football games, and elite talent will come.

Anybody that thought Jones was going to actually get it done here wasn’t paying attention to his time as a BearCat. I posted this back in Dec 2012 shortly after he was announced.

“After watching the Jones press conference, my deja vu feeling of nausea at the coach speak sent me out surfing multiple Bearcat boards and I found common themes concerning the new head coach.

Micro manager
Weak x's and o's guy
Paranoid
Bad late game management
No 2nd half adjustment
On field loyalty to less talented players
Big ego
Corny Butchisms
Unwillingness to adjust his way to current roster skill set
Fans more upset over loss of assistant coaches than head coach

The bammer and gator have gifted the Vols with Dooley 2.0 for a long term stretch. The only good things I could find were he works really, really hard and appears to be a recruiting upgrade over Doolz.

I avoided the obviously butthurt fans in reading statements concerning Jones, but most Bearcat fans think he is way out of his league in trying to coach in the SEC.

Ugh!!!!! Do I think Jones can win the SEC and a NC? No, but I hope I'm wrong.”

Hopefully the new AD gets it right this time.....

Woah.

He was able to land two generational talents in that first class (Dobbs, Barnett) and it carried him to respectability. I think we'll look back on him in ten years and mostly think his 5 year stint was a waste of time.

Firing Jones and replacing with an interim, things to consider:
- could it lead to academic causalities as players blow off class;
- assistants would spend more time looking for next job than game planning
- perception that AD does not have the coaches back (not true give this is year 5 but a mid year firing does raise the ?)

Given the report the assistants have not meshed, the above could be considered why Currie has not taken action(imo). I do believe if UK wins, then he is gone.

I'd send him out of here on a rail. The thing that gets under my skin the most is I completely believe that he's tried every way in the world to make the fanbase and the players believe that going to bowl games should be good enough here. And it looks like he's been successful in brainwashing at least some of his players. We can't fire him soon enough.

Great post. Firing the head coach in mid season is never as simple as most people think

He didn't evolve at all.
