You're not as dumb as you look, Ike.
Sorry, brother...had to do it. You picked the avatar.
I'm not in love with Charlie Strong. Now, in terms of character and recruiting, I think he's right up there with any of them. But I think he peaked at the coordinator level. He walked into a loaded roster at USF, and let's face it, that schedule is a long ways away from the SEC, or ACC, or whatever conference Texas is in this week. Charlie's in a good place for Charlie. Florida talent, weak conference, and a school where he can handle the pressures of being the man in charge.
Frost may love Nebraska, but he's had a taste of southern talent, and he knows he'll never pull the studs in Lincoln that he could in Knoxville. Still, if he's an HFL, then that's probably where he ends up, and no one can blame him for that.
My jury is still out on Norvell.
My knowledge of the FBS / FCS coaching ranks would not impress any true student of the game. When looking at the "next up & comer", I tend to focus on G5 coaches and P5 coordinators. The difference between the G5 and P5, IMO, is much akin to the difference between FCS and FBS. It's a whole new level. For example, Dino Babers (who gave us fits at BGSU) is a perfect fit for Syracuse. He's going to do well there. Syracuse is one good step up from BGSU. But had he gone to, say, Texas...the change in altitude and pressure would have probably been too much. Again, JMO.
For what it's worth, here's what I took away from that video of Currie on the field last night: "I will never, ever, go through this again." That was the look of a man who was embarrassed, pissed, and determined to get it right next time. Let's hope he does.
Go Vols.
