Option #6 is the scariest, IMO. We don’t want an Orgeron situation where Hoke, Shoop, or Scott becomes a candidate for our next HC.

The small amount of optimism I had that the AD would get this right and hire someone decent has been crushed in the past few hours. I wish we'd get this over with. I have fall weddings to start planning and new hobbies to decide on.

I'm pretty forlorn. Everything that's come out has been bad news for the most part. It feels like it's still the Haslams' show to run, and we see where that's gotten us in 10 years.

Hardly.

Just because he doesn’t go red ass and fire him midseason doesn’t mean he is without a plan. These are big boy decisions. A lot riding on all this but ultimately the timing of it is not nearly as important as the next hire.

Everyone just wants to know it’s over but rest assured it’s over. Just isn’t official yet.

We really aren't a very patient group these days are we? My guess is he very much has a plan. Some may not like his plan, but he has one. The difference is his has a lot riding on it.

Ours is so easy because there's no risk involved, no careers on the line, no program future at stake, nobody watching every step of the way to pounce if it doesn't work out. Just talk on a message board.

Shoot, we don't even have to talk to the coaches involved; just say who we want and it's done. And money? We're not responsible for it so who cares. If only it was that easy for him. Patience people.

A 'coaching search' if we ever manage to get to that has never seemed so pointless.

What happened since your post yesterday? Haslams effing everything up again?

Time and the deafening silence from our AD. My guy hasn't changed his story (and I hope he's at least right about the money I've heard), I'm just losing all faith in UT.

Maybe Nebraskas new AD will hire his man Mike Leach and we can get Frost.

Don't think it's an issue regardless. He can't run his offense to highest level at Nebraska with type of recruiting area it's in . He basically said so last year except he used Wisconsin as the example. he can do that at TN with GA, TN and FL kids

Good points. I'd still fire him today lol. I'm just hoping like heck we don't hire a Wikipedia special.

I’d fire him too.

Just saying that there are some (not unreasonable) reasons for not pulling the trigger just yet.

I’m giving Currie the benefit of the doubt and assuming he knows much more than I or 98% of those on VN do in regards to the timing of it all.

The thing that really pisses me off is the Bama's, Florida's, Auburn's, Georgia's, LSU's, etc of the world would have already fired him. Shoot I'd say most of those schools would have fired him after last year. His leash has been way too long.

Our impatience doesn't mean our AD is incompetent. Pretty clear he is doing things behind scenes.

I’m not sure this is exactly true.

Most programs fire coaches in November. LSU 2016 is the notable exception. They now have Ex Orgeron as HC.

Every effing team in the damn country would have fired him by now! I am sorry but good grief what in the hell are they doing? What do we gain by keeping Butch? Just pay the damn buyout and be done with it. UT acts like we are dirt poor- those revenue lists certainly say differently. At our expense! Sick of it.

There are a lot of teams who wouldn’t have fired him yet. Sucks for us as fans, but no reason to jump off a ledge just yet.

We won’t know if Currie played this well or badly until early/mid December when we have our new coach most likely.

I hope you are right or we are screwed for good in football I am afraid.

Most teams don’t fire coaches before November unless there is a scandal or the coaching change had been in the works before the season started.

It does happen. Some times it works out. But it’s not super common one way or another.

Personally, I hate it. I don’t want to see Butch in any more press conferences or on our sideline ever again (though I would love to see a spurrier-like drunken appearance on the Butch Jones show).

But me wanting him gone doesn’t change the fact that October firings aren’t that common.
