So many forget he was just 39 when he won the super bowl. Youngest ever. He had so much potential.

...so what happened? Everybody forgets this guy was the definition of mediocre after the SB and was eventually fired by Tampa. He didn't even win another single playoff game after that SB run.

LOL. Gruden won that SB courtesy of a couple HoFers on that defense. Johnson was the epitome of a game manager.

Well I know the kind of fan you are. Will rebuttal to every statement. Half his career he won his division including 3 conference finals and a super bowl.. Not bad for under the age of 40.

A guy the fanbase will be underwhelmed with is almost certainly going to be hired. There are no "home run hires" and Tennessee, while a good job, is not the job most Tennessee fans think it is.

The biggest name coach Tennessee could realistically hire is probably Bobby Petrino, although his baggage will likely scare the admin away. If not Petrino, the next biggest guys just in terms of name recognition are probably Justin Fuente and Brent Venables.

IMO, the actual coach hired will be someone like Chad Morris, Mike MacIntyre, or Mike Norvell.

How is it we can make homerun money; but can’t make homerun hires. We’ve been beat into submission as a fan base so bad that the bar is so low that people think it’s ok to just settle. It’s kinda embarrassing, the whole “well that’s just how it is” mindset is ******* getting old. Nobody likes the lovable losers that just accept being losers.
Yeah he might not be a Saban, but if you seriously think this dude isn’t top tier your crazy. Football is football, this guy is a proven winner and a student of the game. The thing about people like him is their always improving and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon.

Not many teams make trades for a coach, let alone trade draft picks. But the Bucs did that to get JG.

How many coaches that don't have star qbs keep winning playoff games every year? If you don't have a star qb in the NFL, you are not going to be a consistent top team..

But it's Jon Gruden. Chucky. Spider 2 Y Banana.

*After 20 threads of Grudenmania (3 new ones this week), you think you can sway us in here. You can not win this argument, in this thread.

Yea, quoted the wrong guy, meant that towards the nimrod up in here

Haha ya it's all good. People will always find something negative. We could hire bill belichik and someone would say he doesn't have the experinxe for college football in here or he can't recruit. It's ridiculous..

Look at the players he developed on the Raiders, most notably qb Rich Gannon. He’s a qb guru, listen to what Mike Holmgren and Mooch have to say about that. Brad Johnson went from serviceable qb to near pro bowler under JG.

Nick Saban never even made the playoffs in the NFL and Chip Kelly never won a playoff game. If we’re judging by that alone, it makes Gruden look like an even greater candidate.

1. That's just an assumption on your part based on the fact he's a current TV personality. Not particularly compelling.

2. I'm not sure I'd agree with that. He won a SB with a team a previous coach built in his first year with that team, then was totally mediocre for the ensuing 6 years after that with only 2 playoff appearances and zero playoff wins.

3. See #2.

4. Why? Because he has a TV segment where he watches film with college QBs coming into the draft? What great QBs did he develop in Tampa?

5. I actually don't doubt that, assuming he wanted the job.

6. Probably, but a lot of other guys also fit that bill.

7. That's just another assumption on your part. He's done nothing in his history that indicates he could build a great staff of recruiters/position coaches at the college level.

8. Non sequitur.
