As with every other thread on here I heard something from someone who knows someone. In my case, a doctor who was a trainer at UT in the 90's. Back when we were good. He of course knows some important people on the hill and here is what he says:
Currie knows everyone wants Gruden, including him. But we have a coach...for now. So there hasn't been one single conversation with Gruden or anyone else about the UT coaching vacancy because there is no UT coaching vacancy. With that said, his friends who are way more important than my friends believe Currie will offer everything including his first born to make Gruden the next coach of the TN Volunteers. If Gruden is not the coach then it's because he doesn't want to be and not because he wasn't approached. They believe Chip Kelly will be approached in the event of a Gruden decline. After that who knows. But the supporters with way more money and influence than any of us, or maybe just me, say there will be a big name n Knoxville soon. But as for now, there has been absolutely no offers, discussions, or anything other than who might be the interim if Butch gets fired before season's end. As usual, this is all third party information and what else would you expect? Sorry if it's not any ground breaking news, but it's likely something closely resembling the truth. If there is such a thing anymore.
Some guy called in today and asked Ainge and Brian Rice what was the main reason we pay coaches for. Rice said to win games, but then they start this bs about graduating players and all kinds of stuff that no one cares about. It's like the closer we get to the end of Butch's tenure, the harder they try to make excuses for him
Long time lurker. I went through the first Gruden mania on here in 2012. I completely bought in. I remember driving down to Atlanta a night or two before Thanksgiving to visit family and some of these same folks on here now said their sources were saying deal is done. I was so excited I told all of my in-laws (all UGA fans) when we arrived. Imagine my disappointment a few weeks later when Lyle Butch Jones was announced as head coach.
While I'm more cautious this time around, the ride was half the fun the first time and let's hope this time we get it right.
Soon.
On Twitter... My no means do I believe it. Per senior espn exec... Gruden has accepted UT job. Will finish out MNF season... Lol... One can dream!

I'd like to see UT during a night game wear black with orange chrome helmet. I would just like to see what it looks like. It may suck but it may not.
