We need to spark the interest of the HC of Purdue and Memphis?

It isn't the best job or even top 5. It is most definitely in the 10-15 range.

Advertising the position and interviewing others is mandatory. A MOU can still be signed and the rest is a formality.

But I'm going Occam's Razor here. Gruden is actually the legit #1 candidate.

Occam's Razor would not suggest we are having secret negotiations (that everyone including my dead grandmother knows all about) with offers of 10's of millions of dollars with a coach we have coveted for over a decade, but whom makes more money already working 18 weeks out of the year. It would suggest we get the same boring coaching search, with the same cast of characters and we eventually hire the usual 'insert name of cheap, up and coming mid-major coach here.'

Is there any truth to the odds improving for Gruden to be our next coach? I mean actual betting odds.

Yes, in a broad view of the coaching search, this is correct.

I was applying it to just the "Grumors." If there are any legs to them whatsoever, then it's because he's the actual top candidate and not because his supposed interest is being used as leverage with other candidates.

The fact that Hubbs and Larry haven't squashed the rumor and have seemingly entertained that it's a possibility lead to me to believe that he is the top candidate right now, but there's huge doubt that he'll actually accept the job, despite UT throwing the kitchen sink at him.
