I’m convinced nobody in the Gruden thread knows ****. Bunch of drama queens and attention whores with a few ring leaders whipping everybody up in a frenzy. The whole thing had a nerdy, goofy start with the “Grude” references, but now it’s just insanity with bloated egos of a few people wanting e-cred on an Internet message board.

In all likelihood no one really knows anything besides Currie & Gruden himself. From what I’ve heard about Currie, I’m not buying any of this Grumor talk at all.

Do I think Gruden will be given the first opportunity to become the next head coach? Yeah. Do I think he takes it? Doubtful. Is it a done deal? Absolutely not.

What I think is more likely is the AD floating rumors to help leverage a few of the more realistic Norvell, Brohm type guys.

I’d love to be wrong. Gruden and Patterson are the two guys at the top of my list. But history shows us a very clear archetype for the guy we will hire, and it isn’t a big name.

You think we're in a position where we have to leak misinformation from the AD about hiring Gruden just to start advantangeous talks with the Norvells and Brohms of the world?

I mean, that could be the case. As you said, history and all.

But I'm going Occam's Razor here. Gruden is actually the legit #1 candidate.

And (playing devil's advocate) would history show Gruden, despite his Superbowl, a guy who's been out of coaching for a decade as a big name?

In this situation presented my guess would be to spark interest. I know, I know most on this board think the head coaching gig at UT is the greatest HC option in the universe. I think so too. That is simply not the case though and never has been from a national viewpoint as many schools have top facilities and money to offer. Now McGee’s Pub brought up a valid point that instate high school football has become top tier, so recruiting nationally isn’t as much of a predominant requirement. Especially with the influx of transplant families moving to Tenn. Still hoping for Stoops!

How can Currie be doing anything? He has to have an open position and post it as open publicly right? My guess is backchannel activity like Peyton, Phil, and the big pockets doing work. Im sure Currie knows but its not like he can be making offers to people. Anyone with connections to the school likely know nothing other than maybe about Butch. People with connections to the backchannelers or those in CJG's orbit are the one's who may know if anything at all is up. Currie will fire Butch, resign, whatever then there will be a search blah blah all awhile Big Jim, Peyton and the heavys are backing up the brinks truck. Just a guess.
