actually the cure is $5,6,7 gas. Until the American people are slapped in the face with the fact that oil will not last forever nothing will change. TBH, the increase from $2 to $4 does not have the effect on most households that the media would like you to believe.

I still believe that drilling for the oil we have close by, along with funding the search for a viable alternative, is the best course of action. Not only do we get rid of our ME dependance (and pretty much ruin their countries worse than any war could) but we make ourselves better in the process.

If you are surprised when you look at these figures, so was I. These figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during Bill Clinton's presidency; when America wasn't even involved in a war (Bosnian conflict)!

And, I was even more shocked when I read that in 1980, during the reign of President (Nobel Peace Prize winner) Jimmy Carter, there were 2,392 US military fatalities!

I think that these figures indicate that many members of our Media and our Politicians will pick and choose the information on which they report.

Consider the latest census of Americans. It shows the following FACTS about the distribution of American citizens, by Race:

European descent .................. 69.12%
Hispanic ............................... 12.5%
Black .................. ................. 12.3%
Asian .................................... 3.7%
Native American ..................... 1.0%
Other .................................... 2.6%

Now... here are the fatalities by Race; over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom:
European descent (white) ..........74.31%
Hispanic ............................. 10.74%
Black .................................. 9.67%
Asian .................................. 1.81%
Native American ................... . 1.09%
Other .................................. 0.33%

Of course they want to maximize profits, that's what a corp does. They are in business to provide a return for their shareholders.

I don't what he has said, or what time-table he has proposed (maybe you can post the links)...but he isn't the first person to suggest taking apart our nuclear weapons. In fact, we have cut our stockpile in half several times over the last 20 years. Granted, we haven't completely eliminated them (though it has been talked about)...is that what Obama suggested?

We aren't using it because the cost your electricity would double to triple. Solar is not cheap at this time to harness and distribute to the masses. We may want to go green eventually but the average consumer in the US, and the world for that matter, is not ready to have their monthly light bill to go up by that much that quick.

It works to a degree. My cousin has the outdoor solar powered light that work at night and do a great job. I know this does not disprove your point but if we all used these type of lights It could be a start.

Also, there are two forms of solar power: solar-thermal and solar-photovoltaic. Solar-thermal could be used by many individual households - and even for power distribution in some areas (that get very direct sunlight and have a fair amount of space to build a plant). I tend to agree that solar isn't really there yet to have a discussion about large-scale inclusion on the power grid...but, solar-thermal is becoming a real possibility (sooner than photovoltaics are...as far as cost is concerned).
