Tennessee football: Butch Jones says Vols have made 'monumental steps'

Siap but this, imo, is an orchestrated moves to make Butch Jones’ tenure about restoring the health of the overall program. If you want to believe the buyout rumors, you could say this was something he wanted published so people would look at his legacy positively.

Maybe he used today as his last press conference to reflect on the good things he did? I hate that things went so south because he should definitely be remembered for turning this ship around and getting it pointed in the right direction. He did a lot of good for us.

Which is why Butch will be here all year or at least till we’re no longer in Bowl contention.

I think Nick is saying the buyout is cheaper if we miss a bowl but we lose revenue and exposure, which isn’t necessarily a good trade off. If you think CBJ is an albatross around the neck of our team that is holding them back from being at least bowl eligible, you cut him lose.

This is where I am. Cut him lose. (And I respect much of what Butch has done - I just think it’s over and time to move on).

Concur. Seems overall like a pretty decent man. Would be remembered well if he resigned Sunday. ...Or even at halftime Saturday during the CBS interview when we’re down 57-0.

Butch has done a lot of good for Tennessee, I hope fans remember that whenever Currie decides to pull the trigger. I wish things would've ended a little bit better for him.

CBJ would be due about $100K in bonus money for making a bottom-tier bowl. That isn't even a factor in a buyout north of $8M.

Good post. He may not have taken this team to a championship, but he has done good enough to not be grouped in with a loser D-bag named Dooley.

Imagine if big Philly makes an encore farewell tour. It would be like a loved one reincarnated and you get to spend a few weeks with them. #BonusRound

I think they will if he leaves next week. As I mentioned in another post, if he keeps the strange butchisms up and continues to keep losing his legacy heads south quick.

Didn't want to buy in but if Larry is turning the corner it'll be hard to abstain.

He's just setting us up for the perfect LWS letdown:

One day:
"Starting to look like Gruden is a real possibility..."

Next day:
"Gruden was never a realistic option. No big time coach wants the job. Top targets: Bobo, Satterfield, Houston, and Calhoun. If me miss on those, look for Hoke to be promoted."

He probably bought into the “gruden will be named coach but won’t start until January, fulmer will be interim” narrative
