Recruiting Forum Talk XXXIX

Big fan of Martinez. I haven't kept up with Penix or any of the recruits since season went south.

I'm not a proponent of cutting anyone loose but a new coach would be crazy not to make a call to TL and Fields tonsee if they want to join the class then you risk taking 3 QBs but we know one would naturally drop off. It's going to probably be too late to get in on trevor. Fields would be more likely

Oh, please Dear Lord....if you will make Penix our quarterback and Cooter our Coach or OC....I will never ask for anything again.....just imagine what Kesling would do with that.....the script writes itself.....:clapping:

Coach Doug Matthews just made a comment on the radio to illustrate how far Tennessee has fallen…

“When we used to go down to Florida they would throw bottles of piss at us as we left, now they’re buying us beers after the game.”

With a good coach we are back to back SEC East champions and possible playoff contenders in 2015 and 2016. We would also be 5-1 this year.

That's with the roster that Butch built. You have to have the recruiting and the coaching. There are some very good on field coaches who would not have had that roster.

Who would win? 15' Vols or 16' Vols(first half of season)? 15' Vols was Elite for first 2 and half quarters, 16' Vols was elite for final quarter. Would be a wild game lol

IIRC it was said by more than one person in this forum that TL really wanted to come here, but his family didn't like Butch or his offense.

If Clemson drops 2 more games or so, the shine might be off Clemson a little bit and he might look at our depth chart and give us strong consideration.

Or if Butch would have just figured out how to close in 15'. Took a playoff team to OT, took Bama to the wire, even with 3 missed FG's. Crazy to think 15' was our best team under Butch.

Tbh, not sure if a good coach would have been much different in 2015. Maybe 9-3 instead of 8-4, Butch had that team playing with fire every game they played better than their talent. Obviously coaching let them down sometimes late but it's tough to say if a good coach gets that much out of them for first 3 quarters.

Edit: if Butch had a killer instinct we would be 11-1 in 2015 for sure

I feel like Butch is on the verge of completely ruining the
appreciation of the fan base for all the hard work he has
done for this program. If he humbly leaves after the Alabama game, I feel like the majority of the fans will always remember him as a man of character that took over a job few wanted who worked hard and did the best he could leaving the program in better shape than he found it.

If he keeps just spewing out butchisms and hanging around after this week, I fear that legacy goes out the door.

I agree but I don't think he sees it that way. In his mind he has been near flawless and if his players had just executed the infallible system we would be in the championship discussion.

Absolutely. The weight room issues have been going on for years now and it's evident. We've got big guys we no strength. It's why every team (even UMASS!) controls the line of scrimmage against us. Player development has been incredibly bad. I head a guy on the radio with CFB Matrix and he said by their algorithm we have the 9th best roster in the country with bottom 100 level coaching.
I think the weight room thing is an issue but a little overblown. Cosey Coleman only did like 17 reps on bench at the combine so somebody was slacking back then too, and that was in our most recent heyday. I think the bigger problem in the SC scenario was with that move of firing the SC coach to placate the players, Butch essentially let them know that he wasn't in control, and it spiraled from there.

Would y'all rather have Kiffin or Mike Bobo?

I think if we hire a good coach and keep Rock/Hire another elite S&C coach we could see a Uga with smart turn around with how the players play. The talent is there imo, the depth might not be tho

Hey guys, one of my employees has really, really been sucking it up lately. Their performance has consistently dropped over the course of several weeks and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better. Their deficiencies have been pointed out repeatedly, but they refuse to change/alter the way they perform their job. This has caused a toxic work environment in the office because other people's jobs are being impacted. Should I let this individual go, and appoint someone else in the department (that has experience in the role) to take over while a suitable replacement is found? Or, just let the individual keep working through the end of the year and hope things will change? Thanks for your help!

Definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

You should definitely let them continue. It would be irrational to make a change at this point of the seas... uh.. year. I'm sure everything will be fine!

Depends on if the person under them is really the reason for their shortcoming. One thing is certain I sure wouldn't make a change unless the real culprit was let go.

Don't know. Will you be paying him 3 years' salary as part of the severance package?

There wasn't an interim at UGA. The LSU debacle was a cluster because it forced them to hire Orgeron as full time coach.

They didn't get their top two targets but they weren't "forced" to hire O because they fired Miles early. They just didn't see anybody that they liked better than him. Them hiring O had nothing to do with the timing of firing Miles.

It really is that simple. Too much overthinking going on.

You will anyway. If he stays he makes what the contract says. If he goes now or at any point he makes what the contract says. The only question is will the interim justify his bump in pay by getting more wins and putting more tails in seats.
