Official Jon Gruden Thread XVIII

Hey old friend.

John is very much like what I assume you have heard. I don’t know what he is doing but I do know that silence is a powerful leverage tool.

I also know the AD is locked down tight. I had surmised that only a small group 10 or so know exactly what is happening. That being said I had that conversation last night with someone that told me it was more like 3. That is as far as the AD is concerned. I have several good friends that are in that office. I will not say what they do as it would give them up. I can also tell you that they know “something” is happening and it has been stated if anyone hears anything and it is repeated their position will be re-evaluated. I am certain John does not want any lose lips that can be traced back to him (my opinion).

One question from a negative viewpoint.... (I know guys, I know) if Currie runs such a tight ship, and based on your post and every thing I have heard and read here as well that seems to be a consensus....

That being true; so does Gruden and demands full control.... is Currie, in your opinion, the type of guy who would give up control to Gruden that I have heard is one of his demands?

I thought you took the brunt of the vitriol on VN when it didn’t happen last time. I was more impressed with your handling of the situation after it was over than when we were having all of our fun on Gruden island. I am happy you are back in the saddle this go around. I am glad to see the band back together.

Hey thanks...that's very kind.

I see Peyton as the mediator for Gruden as coach and Fulmer and Holloway as providing administrative support for academics and compliance.

Whatever you do, don't look at the other threads on this site concerning coaches. It's like an EMP attack consisting of nothing but energy vampires out there!

Hard to even entertain this question. I don't believe for one minute, knowing the history Kiffin has with TN, Gruden would even ask!

Is it really that hard to imagine? Kiffin is one of the best offensive coordinators in the Nation. Gruden will want to assemble a staff of the best coordinators and position coaches money can buy.

I'll put it like this.. If you take Kiffin's history with Tennessee out of the equation.. I could easily see Gruden going after him.

Kiffin doesn’t want to work FOR another coach...not happening.

That's a very good question. I'd like to know thoughts on that as well.

I believe any needed "control" issues were taken care of in the big hitter meeting the Sunday after the Georgia game.

I'm not sure he'd ask for "full control" anyway.

FR, I just got back from there. Evidently, single A high school coaches making 15k a year is the "list" we're working from and basically the best we can do.

If Kiffin is a good fit with Gruden I'd welcome him back. He's a proven OC and I don't blame him one bit for leaving UT for USC - made total sense to me.

My opinion has nothing to do with his qualifications, he's more than qualified. With that, your last sentence goes to my point, he has a history that cannot be erased.

Kiffin just left the OC position of a national champion program to be a HC. He is not going to step back down unless he has to, and he likely has at least three years before that will happen. But, it is Kiffin, it could be less....

What exactly is full control

I don't know....that's why I quoted it. I know there were some issues around the Thornton Center and admission standards. Those were the type of things where leeway and input seem to have been provided.

I'm not sure if I fully understand what is meant by "Full Control"

Is this strictly from a budget standpoint? Or does the AD/Boosters actually make team-related decisions? Like who to start, what offense to run, who to offer scholarships to, ect..

Might be a dumb question but I'm not familiar with how things work at the top.
