I kinda get the feeling that a lot of the team has maybe given up on the HC, but not the season (if that makes any sense). It’s possible they could be done with Butch AND still have enough pride to wanna win games.

Sure I agree. Only thing we can see is the effort on the field and they have haven't quit and that is clear.

I don't think he said they were fighting hard for Butch...he simply said they were fighting hard.

Unfortunately, the obvious fact is these men have lost a ton of confidence. It might be the key reason why the season has gone south.

Exactly. And we can't measure why a player is playing hard we can just see it happening

I think one of the biggest mistakes this staff made this year is putting Trey Smith at Guard. From day 1 they should’ve put him at Tackle and let him develop. Sure he would’ve took some lumps but by the time Florida came around he would’ve been ready and then you have an All- SEC caliber tackle for the next 3-4 years.

I dont have any issue with Trey at G. It was projected to be his NFL position anyway. His strength is smashing people and can do that at G. I personally would have kept Thomas at C, Robertson/Smith at G, Kendrick at T and let Richmond/Tatum/Jones battle for other T spot.

lol quitting and not caring about the outcome are different now. Keep spinning anyway you want but a team with a inept offense and a defense that has played extremely well for the most part since the opener isn't a team that has quit, doesn't care about the outcome or whatever you want to call it.

Bruin, I'm not going to argue with you. You have been more consistently wrong than anyone else on this board in the past 2 months. Either by pure ignorance or the fun you get from trolling. I took you off ignore because I got annoyed by seeing the "this post was made by someone on your ignore list" on every other post but it's obvious I made an error in judgment.

Rewatching the game. If JG can get the confidence to just pull the trigger, or the receivers can get open (I can't see what they are doing) JG will be very good for us. Frost will work wonders with him imo.

Frost, Frost, Frost, Frost

Most of the time they are not open. But he still has to get rid of it.

Yes.

That is also why I am typically adamant on pointing out incorrect conclusions about the last coaching search. For example, Charlie Strong was nearly a done deal. He told Hart that he would like to have the job. Strong changed his mind after talking to his family for a pretty personal reason. Strong was towards the top of the search list.

SBV can think what he wants.

He was near the top of HART'S list.

Same. Back to ignore he goes

I know it's been a few days, but I thought Fulmer's interview on sports talk was very interesting.

His comments on zone blocking and that our players are just lacking in fight and toughness was spot on. Said that you can be aggressive in a zone blocking scheme, just look at Alabama!

We've already talked about his comments about changing coaches midseason- but the end part about possibly needed to do so due to the new signing day was pretty important imho, but probably depends on your perspective while listening. Why do I think his comments on signing day matter? Because Fulmer was legendary for his pulls on signing day, I'd say his opinion on how coaching affects recruiting probably matters.
I just can't see fulmer getting behind someone like kelly, although that's purely my opinion. I can see him going for a fiery guy like Frost who takes pride in his line play.

If nothing else, it was a good 10 minute listen.

Team hasn't quit they just have no freaking clue what they are doing on offense. Pretty clear defense hasn't quit.

The coaching on offense is just such garbage. The defense has actually improved, they just are on the field all game long.

What we are seeing is how good Dobbs was. He bailed Butch out in such a big way. Without Dobbs Butch is fired 2 years ago imo. Dobbs was so talented he was able to win some games but even with all of that talent, Dobbs, Barnett, Kamara, Hurd and others, We still couldn't win more than 8 games in the regular season with Butch. It is so frustrating to think what an elite coach could have done with that talent. National Championship is not out of the question with the talent we had on this team and still do. Butch just has no clue what he's doing.

Agree. They haven't quit. They just aren't very good.

Getting better on defense though. Maybe offense will eventually come around.

Crazy thought I had this morning. IMO, we are 5-1 right now if Debord returned for one more year.

Frost would be so perfect here imo. Home run. We need to land that guy.

Isn't one of her hits the official theme song of the Tennessee Coaching Search?

I thought this was our official theme song this time around. To me this just said, to hell with it, we're going to have fun anyway. I was actually kind of proud that we had someone who could step up like this. Among all the adjectives and nouns used to describe our fanbase sometimes we're just pretty cool. jmo.

Strong was a pretty hot name at the time. Hard to quantify, but it seemed like most thought he’d take a big time job and become a tier 1 or tier 2 coach at the time we were after him. Some still think a lot of him. Dude got a $2 million HC job after 3 losing seasons at Texas.

At the time, it seemed natural that he’d be the first guy you chase after some P5 guys said no (to me, at least).

Yeah, and he's a good source of this stuff because he's certainly a source they go to for his opinion. If he's willing to say it publicly it means he's telling them a change needs to be made behind the scenes.

If it is ok that you disagree with Invol then just drop it. I heard the same info as Invol last year right before the VT game. He is not on here for e-cred just stating what he heard and believes to be true from a trusted source. Its ok to agree to disagree without dragging it out over 50 pages.

Be careful. He'll go on and on about some tangent argument trying to justify some tangent position.

Edit: Too late. Haha

And that misuse of talent affects you for years to come. Mismanagement of players and positions changes their development down the road. A player like Trey Smith is a great example. He will do well here, but is he going to develop to his greatest potential? A great coaching staff, and it's more than just the head coach, can place players in a position and challenge them to develop past what they think they can. Most of us who have been on successful sports teams know how this happens. The individual players become more than they anticipate going in that they can become, and then the team becomes exponentially better.
I don't believe that Georgia has players that are much better than UT. I do believe that many of those players are playing much closer to their potential because they've been put in a scheme that allows them to succeed. If a great player is constantly having to either play out of position or be expected to make some extraordinary play because the scheme is poor- they're going ton fail. you can't be exceptional 100% of the time. However, if your scheme has everyone in the correct spots, and players just need to make plays, and not miracles individually, then every player just got better. UGA is doing that, UT is not.

I think a change has to be made this week in order to get bowl eligible. I just don't see a Butch Jones led Tennessee team winning at Kentucky and the math gets pretty tough if we're sitting at 3-5 afterwards.

If Currie isn't concerned about this season then he may just wait and ride it out. Hyams said yesterday he can't see Butch being fired before Kentucky so we'll see.

That was exactly my thought. It seemed to me that he held back for a bit, but then went ahead and finished up his thought.

Everybody with me now. Frost! Frost! Frost! Frost! Frost!

You are right. Debord would have played Richmond, Robertson, Thomas, Smith and Kendrick on the oline and with his play calling we would be 5-1 and Dormady would be adored on VN.
