I'm not saying there isn't pressure at Tennessee, because there is -- obviously, but I think being the coach at your alma mater would be a different level of pressure.

Hey Souce what were you meaning here? Were you talking about Peyton?

His agent isn't going to allow for a "no Nebraska" clause in there. I don't think I've ever heard of something like that in a college coach contract.

He knows the fear of that happening is power and something like that would come with a hefty price if we were to put it in there. UT would be better off paying him well and making it where he doesn't want to leave.

Fat buyout. Sign or don't.

Yes, it is.

That's OK if you don't believe me. On to 2017, I'm willing to bet a lot of money that Gruden won't be a possibility again. Won't be surprised if more inquiries are made this go around, but I highly, highly doubt Gruden coaches here.

What a buzzkill...

Don't see Frost leaving Tennessee for Nebraska. If we get him, he's ours. Biggest threat is him turning us down initially for the Huskers or even for a top 5 job (could wait for UF to open up).

This.

We borrow trouble around here.

If Frost wants the job you give it to him and roll the dice. You make the buyout large on both sides (because we ain't gonna fire him) and my guess is Nebraska never comes calling.

Jon Gruden probably won't recruit; He'll conduct interview with prospective recruits. Oh, and read on if you want to know how come our offense improved so much in 2015 & 2016.

Just another in a very long list of reasons to make it happen with Jon. Make every attempt to have him say "yes" and if he refuses, never try again. Just invite him to help and participate in the program in any way he chooses going forward. Then go hire the best you can find.

This is a great opportunity for him as well as UT. If he doesn't want to do it by now, he doesn't want to do the work.

Well, for one, he doesn’t seem to be a scum bag like Kiffin. 2, TN is a better job than Nebraska and it’s not close. 3. Currie is smart enough to make his buyout ridiculous to protect us from that.

Frost turned down good opportunities after his first year at UCF. If he really wants to coach at Nebraska, he'll turn down any offers and just wait it out in Orlando until they call either this year or next. Best case scenario for us is for Mike Leach to follow his pal to Nebraska so we have a better shot at Frost.

I particularly enjoyed this quote from the article which in my mind helps squash the whole "he's a lazy tv guy who doesn't have a desire to put the hard work of recruiting and whatnot." :

"Gruden, who famously woke at 3:17 a.m. each day of his coaching career, cherishes the grunt work. “I don’t have anything else,” he says. “I’m not a good golfer, I don’t have any hobbies, really. I spend a lot of time on each guy. And I think they appreciate it. I really do want them to get one percent better.”

...and who has more leverage? If Frost will only agree to a deal with certain buyout language, then you decide to roll the decide or try plan B. It's all so simple on a message board.

If he doesn't give assurances that he doesn't intend to bolt to Nebraska, you can't hire him

Alright. Here’s the info I have as of now.

Not much.

Regarding the locker room - players feel they get the runaround from Butch. That related to any concerns or discussions about things, he just gives lip service. They’re over it.

Nothing ground breaking, but pretty much confirms what’s going on.

Trying to see if I can get anything related to thoughts on coach transitioning timing and what players might think.

I agree with you.

I think everybody would be having a lot of fun if it was to work out that he took the job with us.

From that article:

Gruden offers his cell phone number to each participant. “Call me anytime,” he will say, and he means it. Gruden regularly communicates with ex-campers Kirk Cousins and Andrew Luck. After their filming day, some quarterbacks come back for individual tutoring. Goff stayed an extra day, and Wentz was hoping to return, though a schedule conflict had him still finagling a date. Marcus Mariota, another Tollner client, also spent extra time with Gruden before being selected second overall in 2015.

Tollner considers the camp more educational for his clients than it is a media opportunity. “When these guys go in for team visits or at the combine, the team is just trying to figure out what they need of them,” Tollner says. “Jon is giving these guys an unfiltered assessment. Nobody else is telling them that.”

Mariota worked with Gruden on protecting himself at the end of plays (in college, he often took unnecessary hits after a big run), as well as ball security. Another plus: Some NFL and college players train at Disney’s Wide World of Sports, which allowed Gruden to help Mariota work on commanding a huddle. In the pre-draft process, Mariota previously found it difficult to summon enough players to even form a huddle.

The unconventional arrangement makes it difficult to classify Gruden: Is he a media member? An analyst? An advocate? Does it even matter? There is perhaps no other person in football who gets this much access to the top quarterback prospects, and as such Gruden’s opinion is a commodity. “Right before the draft, his phone is blowing up,” Arteaga says. “And you know who’s calling? Owners, general managers, coaches—all of them.”

Just now, they’d have a hard time reaching Gruden. The film session over, he has grabbed a pool noodle and gone out to the field, where Wentz has been warming up. Doing his best to emulate a Bob Sutton blitz, Gruden is running after the quarterback while whacking him with the foam stick.

This is Gruden back in his element. He is flaunting his personality, and he is coaching—however unconventional the set-up.
