Mullen is a fantastic coach. It’s increible what he has done in stark Vegas. He and his staff have developed a ton of nfl defensive talent in his time there too. I would love to see what he could do here.

He is right there with Patterson for me as the best pure coaching options we have available. I think things have stagnated in Starkville and, honestly, he's not as excited about being there as he once was. A change of scenery would do him well.

I would be ecstatic if we got him.

Same here. I also doubt Patterson goes anywhere now. He’s the best coach in the big 12. TCU wasn’t power 5 last time we went after him I don’t think. And it’s really easy to get players into TCU. Not to mention they love him there and rightfully so.

Also, we're talking about things being "meh" for him at Mississippi State for him right now but they could very well finish at 8-4 or 9-3 to finish the year. A tougher schedule with far less talent and he could get that team to 8 wins when we're looking down the barrel of 5-7 with Butch.

He's a fantastic coach. Given the recruiting tools we have here I think we would be consistently a top 10 team in two years.

I'd have to think Kelly, Peterson, and Patterson would be higher

No inside information obviously but right now my money would be on Mullen.

It seems to be a mix of a big enough name, successful track record, SEC head coaching experience, no buyout and young enough to be here a while.

I'm kind of leaning toward him as well. I'm thinking the best odds will either be Frost or Mullen. I hope it's Frost.

Am I the only one who really hopes it's not Gruden? I know, shut my damn mouth. However, we've been down this road before and been disappointed and while he has won a Superbowl his overall record 100-85 (.541) isn't great. He hasn't coached in almost 10 years, and no one is sure if he is willing to travel as much as is necessary to recruit against the likes of Bama. UGA, Florida, Auburn, etc. Personally, I'd rather have some one like Kelly who is more proven at the college level. Jmo

Tennessee’s first question to any coach should be,

“OK Mr. _____, how many 10+ win seasons have you had as a head coach at the collegiate level?”

If the answer is not a number above 0, the interview can conclude.

Any interest in Bronco? His answer would be 5. What he's doing at UVA this season is pretty remarkable.

Mullen is just average to me. He may have gotten MissSt to #1 before but he had Tebow 2.0 on the team and since then not much of anything. Even Butch got us in the top 10

He brought in and developed Tebow 2.0 as well as another great looking current QB. With a lacking budget and facilities comparatively speaking.

Kelly - recruiting, NCAA, won’t stay, everyone runs offense
Peterson - no ties to South, Mormon (some folks tho)
Patterson - Too many down seasons, 4-8!!!!???, can’t play SEC ball

I’d say Paterson and Peterson may place higher than originally posted, but that’s a sitting on the toilet post. Not a ton of thought 😏

I think he's happy at Mississippi State (yes, I know that sounds crazy), and I wonder if he's just using the situation to get another raise and extension.

Looking like Mullen will probably win 7 or 8 again this year. Idc what anyone says, what he's done at MSU is impressive. If he's winning between 7 and 9 most years there what would he do here with superior talent/resources and a weaker division?

yeh same here. dont understand why our fans are obsessed with him.

My realistic list of experienced collegiate coaches:

Wittingham
Mendenhall
Calhoun
Mullen

I'd be plum stoked for any of these four. All are flat out football guys.

He campaigned for the Georgia and Florida jobs. He wants to move for the money and higher ceiling. We provide both of those things.

Troy Calhoun? Surprised Hubbs and co. didn't throw his name out already. He has been linked to the Tennessee job since 2008.
