Blackburn is not unemployed. He's not currently an AD, but he's not unemployed.

You have him on LinkedIn? :)

Yep. Like the rest of us, even if he doesn't "know," he knows.

No, he "knows". Even if he's not fully "in" with Currie yet, he has enough sources to "know" when a sitting coach gets fired. Currie has to run that by multiple people. He can't keep it internal like a search.

From constant pressure comes real information. Hubbs knows his meal ticket is in play. He also knows how dumb UT has been in the hiring/firing in the past. So he's walking the line of reality and guesswork using deflection until he has something reasonably real he can hook people on.

More from Hubbs...

These two post tells me a lot. One, Hubbs will not put stuff out there unless it's 100%. Very similar to Hyams. Also, Hubbs doesn't know anymore than the rest of us. He gets tidbits but nothing worthy of putting out there.

I think there are actually two searches going on simultaneously. The AD is doing his normal stuff through back channels during the season. There is still a coach in place so he can't be searching for a coach while that is the case. The other is on the booster side. High level boosters are doing their thing. I think this is what happened with Gruden the last time. I think some boosters were trying to get a deal with Gruden and took a semblance of one to Hart and was shot down. I'm not sure that the boosters had the blessing of Hart and may have been working independently.

This time it could be similar but I think maybe some boosters are working a little behind the scenes at Currie's bequest or at least with his blessing.

I'm hoping Peyton and Coach Fulmer are involved and are the uniting force that I think is needed to make a successful hire, whether it be Gruden, Kelly, Frost or another established, successful coach that we all can rally around. I'm not sure the fan base will accept another lack luster hire.

Hubbs isn’t wrong about Hart never talking to Gruden.

The boosters brought him to Hart on a silver platter and he tossed it aside.

Let’s see how Currie handles things.

Hubbs was asked what level of info does he get during a coaching search...

-Hubbs

Seems reasonable. Basically Hubbs is saying don’t take anything reported as gospel until it happens.

Still hilarious to me the VQ guys are acting as if there isn’t a coaching search yet though. It may be in infant stages where everything is done through back channels and feelers, but we’re definitely in the midst of one.

Manufactured controversy. Blackburn’s unemployed but Fulmer finally got a job. :)

Agreed.

I hopped on the outrage bandwagon at the time over not going for Blackburn, but it seems now that he wasn’t as much of a no brainer as he was made out to be.

And we have Fulmer working in the AD again as well. Only time will tell, of course, but I don’t think the AD hire went as badly as we all thought at the time.

Officially, UT isn't in a coaching search. The UTAD isn't directly pursuing anybody when UT has a sitting coach. It's lawyers, agents and intermediaries having casual conversations to gauge mutual interest.

Smart play by Hubbs. He knows exactly what will happen... “Hubbs said..,” and it will be brought up for years if he is wrong.

Better to be silent than to wildly stab in the dark and be repeatedly wrong, when your reputation depends on reliability

Which basically means we’re in a coaching search but our AD wants plausible deniability.

Also best to be honest and open about how these things go for him.
