UT's not looking to go the cheap route. They're just not going to offer big money to more than a handful of big names. If it drops down a tier, they're going to look to pay market value. That's not cheap; it's just business.

Tennessee's administration likes to use Cincinnati as a hub for their coaching searches. I wonder if Currie keeps that up.

Mike Hamilton had a crazy protocol too. Lots of misdirection, multi city flights, diversion planes, cities outside of speculation

I personally think he was just trying to act like a spy more than hire a coach

Is it true Butch posed as Gruden on the phone, and when Hart went to Cincinnati to meet, and there was no Gruden, Butch popped his head in...

IMO No way we get serious with Bobo. His name is being brought up because he has a lot of what matches a possible candidate.

Long time OC in this league, lots of recruiting connections in area, history of producing very good college QBs. Now has HC experience... at the end of the day he isn't setting world on fire to justify hiring him after a 2yr stint. He may end up back in SEC at some point but not at TN.

Tennessee’s first question to any coach should be,

“OK Mr. _____, how many 10+ win seasons have you had as a head coach at the collegiate level?”

If the answer is not a number above 0, the interview can conclude.

Currie is an odd guy. He was a controversial hire. His personality rubs some the wrong way. Dr. Davenport has a quirky personality, too. Hamilton, Hart, Cheek, DiPietro-- UT hires some of the strangest people.

This is a fact. He used a gas station fax machine as his communication hub? Lol. This guy is as secretive as it gets. He could be hiring Belichick for all we know. I bet nobody knows until it’s announced

More from Hubbs...

Again, these things are fluid and ever changing. For example last time Jimbo Fisher indicated he would talk to Tennessee. I had that from multiple people and that's why his name was out there. 36-48 hours before they were going to talk Fisher got what he wanted out of FSU and backed out of talking.

I don't like to throw out random names right now, but I understand that's all anyone care about. Austin never said Bobo was going to get the job or even that they would talk to him. But everyone was begging for names so he threw out 3 names that are kind of three different levels if you will.

If I point three "big" names then everyone is going to say "hubbs says it will be one of these three guys". That's not where anything is right now at all. It's not even close to being in a place like that.

I think it will be interesting to see who all is interested in what jobs as we enter the silly season. It seems like in November every year there's talk of all these guys moving around and the domino effect of those moves but then more times than not we don't get that big move to create the domino effect.

McElwein wasn't Florida's first choice a few years ago. They couldn't get traction with a power 5 guy like Hugh Freeze to come to Gainesville.

People thought LSU was going to get Herman or whoever they wanted and they ended up with Orgeron because Texas outbid them.

Again, I know what you guys want and I totally get it. We are working and will work our butt off to get as much information as we can. This will be my fourth football coach search and my 6th basketball coaching search. And they are all very different. No two are the same so there is not "formula" or model for covering one.
