Official Jon Gruden Thread XVIII

I've not once predicted Gruden. Nobody I know will communicate names at all. All I was told is that we are chasing a BIG hire. I learned my lesson last time...things can, and do change. What I heard on Sunday night changed all of that for me.

What I have done is pass along things I've been told. I dont rehash Twitter rumors or stuff from other sites. I will say, I am super excited about what I know, and it matches with some other things being posted....so we wait, and we try to have fun in the meantime.

I don't ask for your buy-in, admiration, or friendship. All I ask is that if you don't like me or what I say, ignore me. I assure you, I've got no time or need for trolling.

I should not have said what I did to DTO last night on the forum...I should have texted him to tell EB4H what we'd spoken of. My mistake...it was a bad look. Apologies.
My question is Gruden out of the picture? I hope he considers and decent Tennessee offer which I doubt they will. What’s 6-10 million to Tennessee ...it would definitely payoff for Tennessee. If we can’t get Gruden with good salary package offer Kelly, Stoops and Paterson the same. I am ready for the next step and want a proven coach not a mid major bargain coach.

The great Grude sitting in the stands watching the complete ineptitude of our coaching staff on Saturday had to be unbearable for him. Hopefully so unbearable he can't take it and steps in.

Geeez. Can you imagine? Hope someone handed him a barf bag.

My source (an executive at ESPN) told me that Gruden was genuinely interested in 2012 and Hart was actively pursuing him.

Everything broke down because Hart was erroneously communicating with Frank Caliendo the entire time, a known prankster, so to save himself the embarrassment he covered the whole thing up and offered Charlie Strong instead.

It's not personal...last night was my fault. There will be turdmunchage no matter what.

I agree.... I haven't seen anyone in here say that Gruden "would be" our coach, only that we have been assured that the Admin is going after a Big Name coach this time as our target....

Truth is I haven't heard much more except some wanted Butch gone after Saturday and cooler heads prevailed.

But NO MATTER what happens it will be said we all PROMISED Gruden because people hear what they want to hear and believe what they want to believe

What I heard Sunday night has him very much in the picture. It was the first and only first hand thing I'd heard to that effect.

Let's call him 1a and 1b, with the feeling being mutual. Seems the time and circumstances could be right.

Not a prediction, just my feeling based upon what I was told and by whom.

Here’s the latest from Hubbs....

First of all they are not in a selection process right now. So there's not an on-going search. Obviously, everyone wants names and out of the gate if they get into a search there are going to be tons of names thrown out there. And then things will narrow.

Gruden's name would be one of them. He's on about coaching hot board that comes out because he can have any job he wants. The question is does he want to coach. He sends out alot of mix signals as he has done for the last decade.

As I mentioned in another thread coaching searches are hard. My focus is on being right. I have some good fortune in covering then and I have things happen that make me look bad.

For example, in the search that ended up with Butch Jones, we had everywhere that Hart went to interview a coach. We had mentioned Jones early as a possible candidate. Hart's claim to me after the fact was that he talked to one other candidate that was never mentioned in that search and he wouldn't give it up after the fact.

When Dooley was hired, I had before anyone that Cutcliffe wasn't coming when a media out in North Carolina said he was. But I didn't have first that they had hired Dooley.

I can go on and on. I reported that Dooley had hired Kevin Steele as a DC. But Steele never got on the plane when it came to pick him up so I looked bad on that deal even though he had agreed in principle on a deal. He just never signed anything.

My point is the ebbs and flows of coaching searches are exciting and they are also very challenging.

I have an idea of how a John Currie search goes. He's not flying to a candidates front door like Hart did to interview them. Currie if his search history tells you anything is going to work very quietly in a large city. He's not going to shut down rumors. He's not going to share things.

When Tennessee hired Bruce Pearl, Currie didn't send out any paperwork on campus. At one point he used a gas station's fax machine as a communication hub during the search.

Grude Morning, well I see the typical meltdowns are happening because every little thing that is said by anybody out there didnt come true. Like many have said, believe what you want and quit hanging on everything everyone says. This thread is about hope and fun. You also meet some great people to chat with. Come along for the ride if you want, if not try to respect the people that do.

Not until He says NO.... others have reported that he hasn't said No yet, I have no personal knowledge of this

I hope we get Gruden as much as anyone but I am a Tennessee fan and used to constant let downs just like all of you. They might as well have Dr Phil on the 50 yard line at halftime every Saturday.
The realist in me says we end up with the guy from Purdue. Do you think our fan base would unite behind him after the initial outrage of missing out on a big time hire?

No. go big or go home.

I have a legit question and I want everyones opinions. What if the almost impossible happens and we legit somehow get Gruden? What would your honest reactions be? How would the fan base in general respond as a collective? I know that a Jon Gruden hire would 100 percent salvage the recruiting class and make alot of fans happy....but whats your personal opinion your thoughts if it actually happened?

I would go streaking through the quad.

No one is promising Gruden. The way I see it, is I can stay here and keep hope alive that we will have a future championship or I can step outside and hash out the merits of hiring Dino Babers or recycling Les. After decades of being told to keep our expectations low with underwhelming hires, it's more exciting to think big. I'm staying here.

My sources(unnamed) have said Gruden is listening. He's making odd requests, but that's probably normal for these celebrity types. He's asked for enough land in the deal to start a banana farm(shrugs). Apparently per my unnamed source, he's also inquiring about capuchion monkies(don't ask me)? The main concern there obviously is those suckers bite and then you've got lawsuits and what not. Why would the man ask for a tarantula? Your guess is as good as anyone.

Update.

He's now negotiating for 2 of everything.

We'll see I guess.

Sources-unnamed. I know people who know other people. Don't judge me you Crum bum dirt bags.

J/K...but seriously, don't.

The way I see it, Grumors are like a warm hug, and the Les Miles thread is like getting b***h slapped by a gorilla. I'll take the warm hug.
